HomeMy WebLinkAboutExhibit T - GCHA Letter dated 05.23.2013May 23, 2013 Board of County Commissioners 108 8th Street, Room 100 Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 REF: Land Use Code Article 8: Inclusionary Zoning for Housing Dear Sirs, On behalf of the Garfield County Housing Authority (GCHA), our Board Members and myself we appreciate your time and attention that you have given to Article 8 of the Land Use Code. I apologize for not being able to attend the meeting on May 30, 2013 to discuss the importance of maintaining Article 8 as a part of the Land Use Code. I will be out of town the last week in May. As you know Article 8 holds the guidelines and regulations for the existing Deed Restricted homes, as well as provides a way for additional affordable housing to be built. Garfield County’s affordable housing program is a part of the overall affordable/community housing within the Roaring Fork Valley. The Town of Basalt, the Town of Carbondale, the City of Glenwood Springs as well as the County all have similar programs to provide housing for our workforce. To date there are approximately 230 deed restricted homes in our area, all being administered by GCHA. We realize that in a down economy the need for additional affordable homes is not as great as it would be in a more robust economy. That is why we support the Builders Incentive that you currently have in place. We request that Article 8 remain in the Land Use Code as recommended by both the Advisory Committee and the Planning Commission. If we cycle again into a boom economy the tools will be in place to provide housing for our workforce. Thank you for your consideration regarding this matter.
