1 Tamra Allen From: Andy Schwaller Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2013 12:48 PM To: Tamra Allen Subject: Historic Buildings This is from the 2009 IBC adopted by the county: SECTION 3409 HISTORIC
BUILDINGS 3409.1 Historic buildings. The provisions of this code relating to the construction, repair, alteration, addition, restoration and movement of structures, and change of occupancy
shall not be mandatory for historic buildings where such buildings are judged by the building official to not constitute a distinct life safety hazard. From Definitions Chapter 2 of
the IBC: HISTORIC BUILDINGS. Buildings that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, or designated as historic under an appropriate state or
local law. This is a suitably vague definition. The structure does not have to be listed. It can be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. There is also the
option to review state or local regulations for labeling something historic. As per the National Register of Historic Places, to be eligible for listing, a structure needs to be 50 years
old , significant and still have integrity. Possibly a definition in Article 16 similar or even more vague than the above with a section in Article 10 echoing the building code would
cover the concern mentioned during the code review hearing. Andy
