The property is located outside of Carbondale, in an area where OWTSs and wells are necessary. SITE CONDITIONS The property is currently undeveloped and relatively flat. A proposed 2-bedroom, single-family residence is planned. A I-bedroom detached dwelling unit may be constructed in the future. There is a well located on the west side of the property. The Roaring Fork River runs to the northeast of the property. A ditch, partially enclosed in a culvert, runs along the east property boundary. SUBSURFACE The subsurface was investigated by digging one 8-foot profile pit and one 4-foot profile pit. A soil sample was taken from approximately 2.0 to 3.0-feet below grade. A gradation analysis and hydrometer analysis was run hy CTL Thompson and results are detailed in a report dated August 8, 2013, Project No. GS05782-300. The materials encountered in the profile pit consisted of 6-inches of topsoil, underlain by reddish brown, dense, silty sand with small cobhles to 2.0-feet, underlain by light brown, loose, sand to 3.0-feet, underlain by brown, loose, gravelly silty sand with stacked cobbles 4 to 8-inches in diameter to a maximum depth explored of 8.0-feet. No bedrock or groundwater was encountered. The gradation performed by CTL Thompson shows the soil consists of II % gravel, 61 % sand, 20% silt and 8% clay. The USDA soil type is classified as Silty Clayey Sand. A long term acceptance rate (LTAR) of 1.2 gal/sq. ft will be used to design the OWTS. Page 2 July 17,2013 8-foot profile pit DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWTS design is based on 3-bedrooms. An average daily wastewater flow of 450 GPD will be used. The installation must include a 1000-gallon, two-compartment septic tank with a Biotube® pump vau lt and an Orenco® PF5005 pump in the second compartment. Other equivalent pump alternatives may be considered. Effluent will be pumped through a 1.5-inch diameter pump line to a 12.8' x 33 ' bed with three rows of eight Eljen® GSF A42 Modules. Modules will be placed on 6-inches of concrete sand. A 1.25-inch diameter manifold will distribute effluent to three 1.25-inch diameter lateral distribution lines with 31l6-inch holes, every 4-feet, facing up with the last hole facing down for drainage. The 1.25-inch diameter lateral lines will be placed in a 4-inch diameter line with holes at 4 and 8 o'clock the entire length of the eight A42 Eljen® GSF Modules. The 4-inch line will be placed on each row of modules, 4.2-feet on center, with 6-inches of concrete sand on each edge of the bed. The component manufacturers are typical of applications used by contractors and engineers in this area. Alternatives may be considered or recommended by contacting our office. Construction must be according to Garfield County Sewage Disposal Regulations, the Individual Sewage Disposal (lSDS) Pennit provided by Garfield County Building Department, and this design. REVEGETATION REQUIREMENTS An adequate layer of good quality topsoil capable of supporting revegetation shall be placed over the entire disturbed are of the OWTS installation. A mixture of native grass seed that has good soil stabilizing characteristics (but without taproots), provides a maximum transpiration rate, and competes well with successional species. No trees or shrubs, or any vegetation requiring regular irritation shall be plated over the area. Until vegetation is reestablished, erosion and sediment control measures shall be implemented and maintained 011 site. The owner of the OWTS shall be responsible for maintaining proper vegetation cover. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The property owner shall be responsible for the operation and maintenance of each OWTS servicing the property. The property owner is responsible for maintaining service contracts for manufactured units, alternating absorption systems, and any other components needing maintenance. Geo-fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. No heavy equipment, machinery, or materials should be placed on backfilled drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Page 3 Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure tbat no additional water is being discharged to OWTS. For example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years, or as needed gauged by measurement of solids in the tank. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non-biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWTS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWTS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWTS. The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste only. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions sbould be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Access to all tank compartments and distribution devices is optimal. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC must view the OWTS during construction. The OWTS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of OWTS components. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow applicable county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Please call with questions. We performed gradation and Hydrometer testing on the soil samples. You requested gradation and hydrometer testing on the soli sample. The sample tested contained 11 percent gravel and 61 percent sand size particles. The part of the soil sample with diameters smaller than sand were subjected to hydrometer analysis. Hydrometer analysis determined that the samples contained 20 percent silt and 8 percent clay size particles. Gradation test results are shown on Figure 1. We appreciate the opportunity to work with you on this project. If you have questions or we can be of further service, please call.
