My reading of the letter indicates that a paved drain pan is not recommended and would not be required by the City as the driveway will be remaining gravel. My review of Dave Betley's July 22'd email indicates that you would still require a dip or swale at the end of the driveway to address drainage. Please let me know if my understanding of the City's position is correct. Thanks again for you assistance with the wrap up on this project. It is viewed by City Staff that a concrete pan would not be beneficial if the common driveway remains gravel. A concrete pan would make maintenance for grading and snow plowing more difficult creating a permanent structure that could not be adjusted to the adjacent grades. The City will maintain the ditch along Midland Avenue for drainage purposes. You as the resident will be responsible for maintaining the driveway tying into Midland Avenue This configuration is common with other driveways along Midland A venue. Any future improvements to the driveway installing a permanent surface would require a concrete pan.
