Re: Reudi Reservoir
Dear Mr. Brown:
Enclosed herewith is a joint resolution of the City
Council of the City of Aspen and Board of County Commissioners
of Pitkin County. This resolution relates to the position
of Pitkin County and the City of Aspen relative to sales
of water out of Reudi Reservoir.
What the resolution calls for is the establishment
of an operating procedure for Reudi Reservoir whereby the
reservoir water can be sold and released for West Slope
water users in a manner consistent with the continued recreation
use of the facility and in such a way a-s not to foster continued
growth in the Roaring Fork Valley. Simply stated the city
and county respectfully request of the River District a
discontinuance of any further plans for water sale from
Reudi until such sales are determined to be consistent with
the appropriate county land use plans and consistent with
the surface recreational use of the reservoir.
Because we believe that there are other appropriate
methods to protect Colorado's share of the compact waters,
we cannot support the position of the River District that
Western Colorado must use all of its allocated share of
the Colorado River compact waters in order to prevent California

from using same, if the result of such use would be to create
in Western Colorado the massive municipal- industrial development
that California would have created with that water.
