Existing habitat on the proposed compressor site is of poor quality with limited vegetative
diversity relative to the habitat requirements for the federally listed species with the potential to
occur in Garfield County. As stands of sagebrush are present in the vicinity of the proposed
compressor site, potential greater sage - grouse habitat may exist. However, there is a low
probability of occurrence due to the limited nature of this cover type and the amount of
disturbance that has taken place in the area. Additionally, the CDOW has not identified any
greater sage - grouse habitat in the vicinity of the proposed compressor site.
The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) was federally de- listed on July 9, 2007. Bald eagle
populations continue to be closely monitored and managed by the CDOW as a State species of
concern. The USFWS also monitors their populations under their authority through the Bald and
Golden Eagle Protection Act and Migratory Bird Treaty Act. According to CDOW, bald eagle
roosts sites have been identified along the Colorado River northwest of the proposed
compressor site. These roost sites were determined to be greater than 1 -mile from the proposed
compressor site and no bald eagles were observed during the October survey.
4.12 Resource Areas
Alpine Archaeology Consultants, Inc. (Alpine) of Montrose, Colorado was contracted to perform
a Class III Inventory of the proposed compressor site, which included a literature review and a
physically inspection of the roposed compressor site in order to identify protected or registered
archaeological, cultural, paleontological, and historic resource areas.
On October 13, 2011, Alpine conducted a literature review using Compass, the Office of
Archaeology and Historic Preservation's online subscription database for cultural resource
