Box 1966 Glenwood Springs, CO 81601CRE# 1006 - NCC Pre School TLS 2/18/14 Revisions, Cost Estimate 4/18/14 THS LANDSCAPING SPECIFIC NOTES PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1DESCRIPTION:Provide complete landscaping including trees, shrubs, grass and irrigation.1.2QUALITY ASSURANCE:A.Comply with applicable Federal, state and county regulations governing landscape materials and work. B.Landscape Architect reserves right to review materials at growing site.C.Observation at growing site does not preclude right of rejection at job site. Remove rejected materials from site immediately.D.Personnel: Employ only qualified personnel familiar with required work. 1.3SUBMITTALS:A.Submit a representative sample or photograph of each variety of trees and shrubs for Landscape Architect's approval. When approved, tag, install and maintain as representative samples for final installed plant materials. B.Submit within 30 days after award of contract, complete list of materials to be furnished under this section and confirmed sources for same. C.Provide and pay for material testing. Submit the following materialscertification and text report.1.Topsoil (on-site or imported): a.pH factorb.Mechanical analysisc.Percentage of organic contentd.Recommendations on type and quantity of additives required to establish satisfactory pH factor and supply of nutrients to bring topsoil to satisfactory level for planting e.Identify source location of topsoil proposed for use on the project if imported from off-site. 1.4PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING:A.Preparation:1. Balled and Burlapped (B&B) Plants: Dig and prepare shipment in a manner that will not damage roots, branches, shape, and future development.2. Container Grown Plants: Deliver plants in container sufficiently rigid to hold ball shape and protect root mass.B.Delivery: 1.Packaged materials: Deliver in sealed containers showing weight, analysis and name of manufacturer. Protect materials from deterioration during delivery and while stored at site.2. Schedule: Deliver only plant materials that can be planted in one day unless adequate storage and watering facilities are available on job site. 3.Root Protection: Protect root balls by heeling in with saw dust if not planted within 24 hours of delivery.4. Transporting: Protect during delivery to prevent damage to roots at all times. Cover materials during transport. 5. Notification: Notify Landscape Architect of delivery schedule 48 hours in advance so plant material may be observed upon arrival at job site. 6.Rejected Materials: Remove immediately from site. 7.Placement: Do not lift, move, adjust to plumb, or otherwise manipulate plants by trunk or stems to avoid damage or stress.1.5JOB CONDITIONS:A.Planting Restrictions: 1.Perform planting only when weather and soil conditions are suitablein accordance with locally accepted practice.B.Protection: 1.Do not move equipment over existing or newly placed structures without approval of Landscape Architect and General Contractor.2. Provide board-roading as required to protect paving.3. Protect other improvements from damage, with protection boards, ramps and protective sheeting.C.Utilities: 1.Determine locations of underground utilities and perform work in a manner which will avoid possible damage. Hand excavate, if required, to minimize possibility of damage to underground utilities.2.Coordinate work with irrigation contractor to prevent damage to underground sprinkler system.1.6WARRANTY:A.Warranty plants and trees for one year after final acceptance. Replace dead or dying materials not in vigorous, thriving condition as soon as weather permits and on notification by Landscape Architect. Replace plants, including trees, which in opinion of Landscape Architect have partially died thereby damaging shape, size or symmetry. B.Replace plants and trees with same kind and size as originally planted,at no cost to Owner. Provide one-year warranty on replacement plants. Trees should be replaced at start of next planting or digging season. In such cases, remove dead trees immediately. Protect irrigation system and other piping conduit or other work during replacement. Repair damage immediately. C.Warranty excludes replacement of plants after final acceptance because of injury by storm, drought, drowning, hail, freeze, insects or diseases. Materials damaged by "Acts of God" prior to final acceptance are responsibility of contractor.D.At end of warranty period, remove staking and guying materials from the site. 1.7MAINTENANCE:A.Water: Will be available on site. Provide necessary hoses and other watering equipment required to complete work. B.Maintain plantings and trees by watering, cultivating, weeding,spraying, cleaning and replacing as necessary to keep landscape in a vigorous, healthy condition and rake bed areas as required until final acceptance.C.Coordinate watering schedules with irrigation contractor during installation and until final acceptance. Provide deep root watering to newly installed trees. PART 3 - EXECUTIOND.Tree Wrapping Material: 1.White waterproof crepe wrapping paper specifically manufactured for tree wrapping. 2.White plastic tape 1/2" wide to secure tree wrap.3.1INSPECTION:A.Examine subgrade and verify conditions under which work is to be performed. Notify General Contractor and Architect of unsatisfactory conditions. 3.2TREE PLANTING:A.Ornamental Trees: Plant in pits 12 inches larger than tree ball, backfill mix of:2 parts topsoil 1 part compost1 part sharp sand.B.Shade Trees: 1.Stake locations for approval by Landscape Architect.2.Plant in pits 2'-0" greater in diameter than root balls or to edge oftreeleave-outsin paved areas. Remove excavated soil from site.3.Backfill to depths of root balls with above backfill mix. Coordinate required depth with General Contractor. Carefully settle by wateringto prevent pockets.3.4TREE WRAPPING:A.Extend wrapping from ground to a point immediately below lowest branch of each tree or as directed. Securely fasten in place with tacks or staples so wrapping will remain in place. B.Return and remove wrapping between April 1-15, after first winter of installation. 3.5PRUNING OF NEW TREES:A.Do not cut back terminal branches. Remove sucker growth and brokenor badly bruised branches. Thin native trees heavier than nursery grown plants. 3.6TREE SAUCERSA.Form a four inch high saucer around each new tree for deep watering. Contractor is responsible for deep watering until final acceptance. Tree saucers are not required for trees with drip irrigation system installation. 3.7TREE GUYING AND STAKING : A.Stake guy trees immediately following planting operation. Take precautions during guying operation to prevent damage or injury to branches and roots. Orient all stakes within each cluster or row of trees in the same direction or as directed by Architect.3.8CLEANUP:A.Keep premises neat and orderly including organization of storage areas. Remove trash and debris from excavated planting areas, preparingbeds, or planting plants from site daily as work progresses. Keep paved areas clean by sweeping or hosing. PART 2 - PRODUCTS2.1PLANTS:A.General: Equal to well-formed No. 1 grade nursery stock. Listed plant heights are from tops of root balls to nominal tops of plants. Plants shall be specimen quality, typical of their species or variety.B.Shrubs and Ground Covers: Nursery grown, healthy, vigorous, of normal habit of growth for species, free from disease, insect eggs and larvae. Specified sizes are before pruning and measured with branches in normal position. Plants shall be well rooted and established in the container.C.Ornamental and Shade Trees: Healthy, vigorous, full-branched, well-shaped, trunk diameter and height requirements as specified. Balls shall be firm, neat, slightly tapered and well burlapped. Trees with loose or broken balls at time of planting shall be rejected. Trees will be individually approved by Architect. Root balls shall be nine inches in diameter for each inch caliper, measured twelve inches above root ball. Trees shall be free of physical damage such as scrapes, bark abrasions or split branches.D.Special Requirements: Shade trees are to be procured a minimum of 30 days prior to scheduled installations. Trees are to be healed in at job site or at contractor's holding facility and maintained until site is ready. Architect will review trees at holding area prior to planting.E.Collected Trees: Spray field grown trees immediately prior to digging with anti-desicant. Insure adequate coverage to trunks, branches and foliage. 22.2MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS:A.Staking and Guying Materials: 1.Tire Wire: 12 gauge, galvanized wire2.Metal stakes: 24" T-stakes3.Metal posts: 8'-0" T-stakes4.Nylon strap: 3" wide 12" long white nylon strap with (1) 1/2" brass grommet in each end or Architect approved equivalent. HYDROSEEDING SPECIFIC NOTES PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1DESCRIPTION:Furnish all materials, equipment, and labor necessary for preparation, seeding, fertilizing, mulching, and protection of hydroseeded areas. For type of seed and requirements for planting soil see the Plans and/or other sections of the Specifications. Seed shall be furnished in containers that show the following information: seed name, lot number, net weight, percentage of purity, germination, weed seed and inert material. 1.2WARRANTY AND REPLACEMENT:Seeded areas must have a relatively uniform stand of grass with no bare spots over 6" square at the time of provisional acceptance. Reseed at the original rate and fertilize withappropriate fertilizer per soils test. All areas failing to vigorously establish within 90 days after germination or one growing season (whichever is longest), for any reason whatsoever, shall be redone at the Contractor’s expense.PART 2 - PRODUCTS2.1Hydromulch : Mulch shall be wood cellulose fiber or equal containing no growth or germination inhibiting substances; a soil-binding agent (tackifier) is required; mulch shall be dyed a suitable color to facilitate placement.2.2Soil Binding Agent : Soil binding agent shall consist of non-toxic, biodegradable materialsthat are environmentally safe such as ESI - TAK or approved equal.2.3Seed mixes: Seed must be one or more of the following mixes as noted on the plans.2.4Lawn Installation Fertilizer Provide lawn installation fertilizer per soils test recommendations.PART 3 - EXECUTION3.1Seeding: 1.Fertilizer based on soils test requiremts, seed and mulch shall be applied in one operation with approved hydraulic equipment. Apply materials at the following rates:a.Hydromulch, at 50 lbs. per 1,000 square feet. b.Seed, at rates specified with seed mix. c.Lawn Installation Fertilizer, per soils test recommendations.d.Soil Binding Agent, at 1 lb. per 1,000 square feet. 2.Seeding shall not be done during windy weather (above 25 mph)or when the ground is overly wet (saturated) or frozen. Contractor shall give the Owner 48 hours notice of seeding operations. 3.Seeding, fertilizing, and mulching of prepared areas shall be performed from April 1 to May 31 or from September 1 to October 31 unless otherwise approved by landscape architect. 4.Equipment shall use water as the carrying agent utilizing a continuous built-in agitation system. Equipment with a gear pump is not acceptable. 5.Pump a continuous, non-fluctuating supply of homogenous slurry to provide a uniform distribution of material over designated areas.3.2Maintenance : 1.Maintain seeded areas until grass is well established and exhibits a vigorous growing condition. 2.Maintenance shall include protection, watering, and a minimum of two mowing cycles, or until provisional acceptance.3.3Physical Completion: 1.Inspection to determine Physical Completion of seeded areas will be made by the landscape architect upon the Contractor'srequest. Provide notification at least five (5) working days before requested inspection date. 2.Seeded areas shall be accepted provided all requirements, including maintenance, have been complied with and grass is well established and exhibits a vigorous growing condition. 3.Areas failing to show a uniform stand of grass shall be reseeded at the Contractor’s expense. 4.Upon Physical Completion, the Owner will assume lawn maintenance.3.4Cleaning : Perform cleaning during installation of the work and upon completion of the work. Remove from the site all excess materials, soil, debris, and equipment. Repair the damage resulting from seeding operations. DECOMPOSED GRANITE PAVING PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 GENERALA .The requirements set forth in the General Conditions shall be in addition to the standards provided herein. B. The requirements set forth in the Supplemental Conditions shall be in addition to the standards provided herein. 1..2 DESCRIPTION A. Furnish all labor, materials and equipment for the complete installation of decomposed granite paving.1.3 SUBMITTALSA. Submittals for specified items are not required, however, submittals are required for any proposed substitutions or deviations from the Plans or Specifications. Additionally, submittals are required for the specific items listed below. The Contractor shall submit a materials summary sheet indicating which items will be installed as specified and which items are proposed for substitutions. The Contractor shall submit proof of order within ten (10) working days of the Notice to Proceed, indicating all specified materials have been ordered, noting "as specified" or "substitution proposed". Submittals are required on the following items: 1.Decomposed granite material, provide a one-pound sample for review and approval. PART 2 - PRODUCTS A. "Premium Trail Mix", decomposed granite from Southwest Soils, 58521 Amber Road, Olathe, CO. 81425. (970)323-0500. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 Preparation A. Upon completion of grading operations, compact the subgrade at the required elevation to a relative compaction density of 95%, unless otherwise noted on the Plans. B. No material shall be placed in muddy conditions, nor shall any material be placed during or immediately after inclement weather, ie. rain storms, etc. 3.2 Installation A. Spread crushed granite material in two (2) two(2") lifts. B. Wet and tamp each lift to form a uniform, smooth surface with a cross slope of 2%. Compact each lift to a 95%. C. Upon completion of the final lift, fill any depressions, holes or divots and tamp again using the above process. 3.3 Clean Up and Protection A. Thoroughly clean all areas where work has occurred. Remove from site excess material, debris and rubbish. B. Take all precautions to protect completed work.
