The two (2) hour fire rated wall assembly was obtained from the Gypsum Association Fire Resistive Design Manual, GA -600-2012, GA File No. WP 4230, Fire Test ITS J20-06170.3, 12-00. The one (1) hour fire rated floor/ceiling assembly was obtained from the 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) as prescribed in Section R302.3 in accordance with ASTM E 119 or UL 263. The revised plans and fire resistive assemblies have been reviewed and approved for issuance. Any deviations from these approved plans require re -submittal and approval. Garfield County will perform the required inspections to verify correct installation of the assemblies, as scheduled during the construction process. Thank you for your time in this concern, and please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. After you review these requirements, if you decide to install an approved residential fire sprinkler system in the home, they shall be eliminated. • The wall between the garage and the living space shall be a two-hour rated fire wall. This wall shall be constructed to 2009 IBC standards for a two-hour fire separation wall. It shall also be a UL Listed assembly. • The ceiling/floor assembly between the basement and main living level shall be a one-hour fire resistive UL listed ceiling/floor assembly. The code requirements for this fire separation can come from either the 2009 IRC or the 2009 IBC. This assembly shall also be UL Listed for this application. 1 When you and your architect have selected the UL Listed code compliant assemblies that meet the above requirements , you will need to submit them to the Garfield County Building Department staff for their review and approval. The fire resistant floor/ceiling assembly is required because of a reduction in the reliable fire flow water supply that the Sunlight View II subdivision water system can provide. If you have questions on the reasons for these requirements please contact me.
