The follOWing is our opinion. 1. The heavy timber beam bearing location on the east side of the Kitchen and Dining area, the buill-up column was notched out for a 4" x 4" x 1 Y.t" switch box. t ha~~e determined the reduced section of a 4-ply 2x6 built-up column is adequate to support the loads applied. No nailing was observed at the Visible side of the built-up column at the comer. Provide two rows of 10d CO!l't!!l!1n nails at 6" on-center. slaQ!l8!l:d. at the Visible side. According to NOS 15.3.3. nalls shall have a 2 }ftiTlll!!mwn end distance from column too and bottom. 1" minimum edge distaoce. and 1 %" mjnimum spacing between rows· 2. At the bearing wall on the west side of the Dining area, studs were notched out for another 4" x 4" x 1 %" switch box. I have detennined that the 2x6 studs with the cut section are adequate to support the appRed load. 3. A 3-ply 11 7/8" Mierollam header was originally specified on the drawings for the opening from the existing garage to the new garage. After observing the framing exposed during construction, I have detennined that a 2-ply 11 7/fr M'ICrollam header is suffictent to support the applied load.
