Box 1910 Basah, Colorado 81621 ( ) Job No. 114 JOOA Subject: Observation of Excavation, Proposed Residence, Lot A-1. Aspen Glen Subdivision, 284 River's Bend, Garfield County, Colorado Dear Dan: As requested, the undersigned representative of Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. observed the excavation at the subject site on October 21, 2014 to evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The findings of our observations and rel:ommendations for the foundation design are presented in this report. We previously conducted a subsoil study for design of foundations at the site and presented our findings in a report dated April 30, 2001, Job No. 101 293. At the time of our visit to the site. the foundation excavation was complete and had been cut in multiple levels from I to 6 feet below the adjacent ground surface. The soils exposc<.I in the bottom of the excavation consisted of relatively dense, silty sanely gravel with cobbles and small boulders. No free water was encountered in the excavation und the soils were slightly moist. The exposed suhgn.1c.Ie ha<l been compacted. The soil conditions exposed in the excavation are consistent with those previously encountered on the site and suitable for support of spread fi.1otings designed for the recommended allowoble bearing pressure of 3,000 ps[ Any loose and disturbed soils should b e removed in the footing areas to expose the undi-;turbed naturul soils. Other recommendation s presenled in our previous report which are applicable should also be obse rved. The recommendations submi tt ed in thi s letter are bnse <l on our observation of the soils expo sed within the foundau on e'<cavatmn and th e prc viou c; c;uhsurfocc cxplor~ition at the Grucncfoldt Construction October 28 , 2014 Page 2 site. Variations in the subsurface conditions below the excavation could increase the risk of foundation movement. We should be advised of any variations encountered in the excavation conditions for possible changes to recommendations contained in this letter.
