Dear Res. Smith:
After you came into our office yesterday, I realized the percolation test
for your septic system was conducted by this office, and not by your Engineer.
Therefore, we cannot waive the percolation fee of $50.00, which fee will
need to be received by this office, in order for us to issue the permit, which
at this point is incorrect. Your green copy of the permit should also be returned
to this office for correction.
Please make your check payable to "Garfield County Treasurer", with remittance
to our address above. Prompt Issuance of your permit will be made upon receipt
of the percolation fee. Thank you, and please accept our apologies for any
inconvenience this may cause you.
Very truly yours,

Re: Addition of Mobile Home to First Baptist Church of Rifle Sewage
Disposal System
Dear Mr. Howard:
At the request of Mr. Charles A. Hoffineister I have examined the fea-
sibility of connecting a 3 bedroom mobile home to the Church's sewage
disposal system. The system can handle flows from a mobile home
provided:
1. The building sewer from the mobile home is connected to
the church sewer ahead of Tank 1 (See Eldorado Job No.
80379).
2. 67.5 L.F. of 3' wide trench with 5' of rock below the
distribution pipe is installed in accordance with the
original plan.
3. All construction is performed in accordance with the
Garfield County Ind. Sewage Disposal System Regulations.
If you have any questions with regard to the above please contact me.
Sincerely,
d et • ilwilog

I have reviewed your plans for compliance with applicable design criteria
and have found nothing that would indicate your system is inadequate for your
present use. I explained all this in much more detail in the report which
follows. If you have any questions or feel more elaboration is needed an any
point, please do not hesitate to call.

REPORT
First Baptist Church of Rifle
Sewage Disposal System
GIVEN:
a) Peak enrollment 65 students.
b) Nb gym or cafeteria facilities presently in use.
ASSUMPTIONS:
a) Sewage generation rate 20 gal. per cap. dai.
b) No immediate expansion plans.
c) Existing system was constructed according to plans.
d) Percolation arra profile information stated in plans is accurate
representation of results.
e) Faculty and Staff for 65 students taken as approx. 10.
CALCULATIONS:
Population equivalent P= 65 students + 10 faculty and staff
= 75 persons
Sewage load Q= 75 persons (20 gal, per. cap. dai.)
= 1500 gal per day
Detention volume
V= Dai. Sewage Load (30 hours detention time)

RESULTS OE PLAN REVIEW:
a) Plan layout: Distance requirements as set Borth in "Guidelines on
Individual Sewage Disposal Systems", (page 22), appear to
have len met. These should be applicable to this larger
system as well.
b) Precolation Rate: The percolation rate and soil profile information as
supplied by the Garfield County Sanitarian are within
the limits specified in Section ViI of the above
referenced document.
c) Septic Tank: The present tanks have a combined volume which satisfies the
requirements as set forth in Section VIII Paragraph B of the
above referenced document.
**Note: If the student enrollment increases beyond its
present 65, or if additional facilities are added, an
additional tank will be required, and can be installed in
accordance with the existing design by Eldorado Engineering.
d) Leach Area: There are no apparent problems with the soil type, absorption
rate, ground water level, bedrock level or surface slope that
would prevent use or expansion of the present leach area as
designed or layed out.
e) Trench Length: The method used for calculation of the trench length (EPA
design manual "On -Site Wastewater Treatment & Disposal
Systems") yields a much more conservative design than that
length calculated using the formula specified in Section
VIII Paragraph C.I. d & f. (See calculations:)
By Colo. Health Dept. method need 101 LF
By EPA method need 188 LF
Therefore, the Leach area requirement appears to have
been met.

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
The septic system as designed for the First Baptist Church of Rifle appears
to be well designed, meeting or exceeding all design requirements as set forth
in the Colorado Department of Health "Guidelines on Individual Sewage Disposal
Systems". In our opinion, the system is adequate for the facilities that
presently exist and the current number of persons using the system. If
additional facilities are added such as a gymnasium or cafeteria, or the school
accepts additional enrollment, a minimum of 1 additional Septic Tank will have
to be added. The leach trench can absorb some growth but should be rechecked at
such time as expansion levels are known.
