Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Installation Observations
688 CR 250
Garfield County, Colorado
Permit Number SEPT -4-15-3621
Tommy,
Project No. C1134
CBO, Inc. observed the installation of the onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) on September 15,
2015 for the subject property. Silt Mesa Excavating installed the system.
Garfield County Permit 3205 documents the existing OWTS. There is an existing 1000 -gallon concrete
septic tank and a 16' x 64' sand filter bed with 3 rows of 9 Standard Infiltrator® chambers. The design
document notes a minimum of 4 -feet of sand filter material was placed in the over -excavation. The
system was sized to accommodate 3 -bedrooms. While this OWTS is still functioning, there was a desire
to add capacity to the soil treatment area (STA).
An effluent filter was installed in the outlet tee of the existing septic tank. This filter must be cleaned
annually, or as needed.
A new ball valve was installed on the sewer pipe exiting the existing distribution box to allow one field to
be "turned off" annually.
A new distribution box, accessible from grade, was installed after the new ball valve. The new STA
consists of three rows of 22 `Quick 4' Infiltrator® chambers, installed to the south of the existing STA.
The existing grasses and vegetation were scraped and soils scarified for the Infiltrator® chambers to be
placed just below existing grade to allow a sufficient (minimum 4 -feet) separation between the
infiltrative area and groundwater. A minimum of 6 -feet of undisturbed soil was present between each
trench. Inspection ports were placed at the beginning and end of each trench.
The existing STA must rest for a minimum of 1 year before alternating. With any alternating
system, the property owner is responsible for switching the alternating STAs on an annual basis
and keeping records which document the alternating cycles.
The OWTS was generally installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of
workmanship and/or parts and materials. CBO, Inc. should be notified if changes are made to the OWTS
in the future. Any additional OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations.
LIMITS:
Observations are limited to components that are visible at the time of the inspection. The installer must
have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in
which they are working. The quality of the installation is dependent of the expertise of the installer, soil
type, and weather conditions.
Please call with questions.
Sincerely,
CBO, Inc.

• Have your system inspected (in general) every three years by a licensed contractor
and have the tank pumped, when necessary, generally every three to five years.

Don't:
• Pour cooking grease or oil down the
sink or toilet.
• Rinse coffee grounds into the sink.
• Pour household chemicals down the
sink or flush them.
Do:
• Eliminate or limit the use of a garbage
disposal.
• Properly dispose of coffee grounds a
food.
• Put grease in a container to harden
before discarding in the trash.
Don't:
• Flush non -degradable products or
chemicals, such as feminine hygiene
products, condoms, dental floss,
diapers, cigarette butts, cat litter, paper
towels, pharmaceuticals.
Do:
• Dispose of these items in the trash can!
Don't:
• Park or drive on your drainfield. The
weight can damage the drain lines.
• Plant trees or shrubs too close to your
drainfield, roots can grow into your
system and clog it.
Do:
• Consult a septic service professional to
advise you of the proper distance for
planting trees and shrubs, depending on
your septic tank location.

Don't
• Concentrate your water use by using
your dishwasher, shower, washing
machine, and toilet at the same time.
All that extra water can really strain
your septic system.
Do:
• Stagger the use of water -generating
appliances. This can be helpful
especially if your system has not been
pumped in a long time.
• Become more water efficient by fixing
plumbing leaks and consider installing
bathroom and kitchen faucet aerators
and water -efficient products.
