Project No. C1183
Recommendations for Existing Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS)
3643 CR 233
Garfield County, Colorado
Mandy and Travis,
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC has compiled recommendations and pum p specificatio ns fo r an existing on site
wastewater treatment system (OWTS) installed by you, the property owner. Garfield County Building
Department conducted a subsurface analysis specified design criteria for the existing OWTS; however,
due to lack of proper grade from the septic tank to the soil treatment area (STA), an effluent pump is
required.
The property is located outside of Rifle, in an area where OWTSs and wells are necessary. The address
of the 3.98-acre property is 3643 CR 233, Rifle, Colorado, 81650.
SITE CONDITIONS
A 4-bedroom, single-family residence is presently under construction. The OWTS has been installed in
accordance with Garfield County Building and Sanitation Department Individual Sewage Disposal Permit
3680. Record drawings of the system installation were provided to this office.
There is a private well located on the property greater than 100-feet from the edge of the soil treatment
area (STA).
DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
This design addresses only specifications for the existing pump that has already been purchased,
along with additional recommendations.
We visited the property on October 29, 2015. The existing OWTS consists of a Norwesco® 1500-gallon,
two-compartment plastic septic tank followed by a Norwesco® 500-gallon, single-compartment plastic
tank with a Y2 HP Goulds pump. A 1.5-inch diameter pump line has been installed and is connected to
four gravelless chamber trenches. This line will need to be run with a minimum 1 % grade to a high point.
The first trench as 11 ARC ADS chambers and the other three trenches have 13 ARC ADS chambers.
Laterals have been zip tied to the underside of the chambers with ~-inch diameter orifice holes, facing
up, 6 to 8-inches on centers.
The diameter of the orifice holes and distribution of effluent to each trench will not allow pressurization of
the STA. The STA will be dosed through a distribution box. The 1.5-inch diameter laterals may remain,
but should not be connected to the new 4-inch diameter pipe entering the end plates.
Page2
The pump must be able to achieve 1 O gallons per minute and 6. 7 feet of total dynamic head. The Goulds
PE31 pump can achieve these parameters.
Recommendations:
• Install an effluent filter in the outlet tee of the 1500-gallon septic tank.
• Set floats on the Goulds pump to discharge approximately 90 gallons per dose (on and off floats
must be set 5 inches apart).
• A CentriPro Model S10020 control panel may be utilized with the Goulds pump. This panel must
be installed within line of sight of the septic tank.
• The check valve in the pump line should be removed.
• A 1 /8-inch diameter weep hole should be drilled in the pump line to allow for proper drain back
into the tank after each dose.
• The sewer or water line must be encased1 10-feet on each side of crossing.
• Water line should be encased within 10-feet of septic tanks.
• Install a distribution box at the high point of the pump line (minimum 1% grade for proper drain
back). The distribution box must be accessible from grade.
• Install Flow Equalizers, or similar product, on each 4-inch diameter pipe exiting the distribution
box.
• Install 4-inch diameter SDR-35 pipes exiting the distribution box into each trench, in the top port
of the end plate. Do not connect the 4-inch diameter pipe to the 1.5-inch diameter pipe inside the
chambers.
• Install inspection ports at the beginning and end of each trench.
• Water line should be encased where if comes within 25-feet of the STA.
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC is not liable for component specifications, OWTS component sizing criteria, or
installation practices associated with the existing OWTS.
REVEGETATION REQUIREMENTS
An adequate layer of good quality topsoil capable of supporting revegetation shall be placed over the entire
disturbed area of the OWTS installation. A mixture of native grass seed that has good soil stabilizing
characteristics (but without taproots). provides a maximum transpiration rate, and competes well with
successional species. No trees or shrubs, or any vegetation requiring regular irritation shall be placed over
the STA. Until vegetation is reestablished , erosion and sediment control measures shall be implemented
and maintained on site. The owner of the OWTS shall be responsible for maintaining proper vegetation
cover.
OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE
The property owner shall be responsible for the operation and maintenance of each OWTS servicing the
property. The property owner is responsible for maintaining service contracts for manufactured units,
altemating ST As, and any other components needing maintenance.
Geo-fabrics or plastics should not be used over the absorption area . No heavy equipment, machinery, or
materials should be placed on backfilled STAs. Livestock should not graze on the STA. Plumbing fixtures
should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWTS. For example, a running
toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a STA.
1 Encasement detail provided in drawings.
Page 3
If an effluent filter or screen has been installed in the OWTS, we recommend this filter or screen be cleaned
annually, or as needed. If the OWTS consists of a pressurized pump system, we recommend the laterals be
flushed annually, or as needed .
The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years , or as needed gauged by measurement of
solids in the tank. Garbage disposal use should be minimized , and non-biodegradable materials should not
be placed into the OWTS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener
should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWTS.
Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWTS . The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste
only.
ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES
If design includes a pump, weep holes must be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of
freezing. The pump shall have an audible and visual alarm notification in the event of excessively high
water conditions and shall be connected to a control breaker separate from the high water alarm breaker
and from any other control system circuits . The pump system shall have a switch so the pump can be
manually operated.
Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of the STA due to the potential to compact soil.
Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade.
Backfill over the STA must be uniform and granular with no material greater than minus 3-inch.
INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC must view the OWTS during construction. The OWTS observation should be
performed before backfill, after placement of OWTS components . Septic tanks, distribution devices,
pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic,
LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation.
LIMITS:
The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions
described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWTS construction must be
according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow applicable
county regulations. The contractor should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the
requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Licensing of Systems Contractors
may be required by county regulation.
Please call with questions.
Sincerely,
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC Reviewed By:
