GAS/SPEC Products The guidelines are applicable to the products listed below. These amines may be purchased as concentrate or in the diluted ready -to -use form [denoted by FF]. Please contact your INEOS representative for information concerning other GAS/SPEC products not listed. Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) GAS/SPEC SS Solvent GAS/SPEC SS -3 Solvent GAS/SPEC SRS Solvent GAS/SPEC CS -1 Solvent GAS/SPEC CS -3 Solvent GAS/SPEC CS -Plus Solvent GAS/SPEC TG -10 Solvent GAS/SPEC CS -2000 Solvent Methyldiethanolatnine FF (MDEA FF) GAS/SPEC SS Solvent FF GASISPEC CS -1 Solvent FF GAS/SPEC CS -3 Solvent FF GAS/SPEC CS -Plus Solvent FF `GAS/SPEC Operating Manual (rev. 2/2001) Uses and Applications I1 EO5 With the exception of MDEA, which have many end uses [i.e., coating and paint additives, emulsifiers, gas treating], all other GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines are designed specifically for gas treating applications. These applications include: • Natural Gas Treating • Refinery Systems • LPG & NGL Treating • Tail Gas Treating • Coal Gasification • Enhance Oil Recovery • Ammonia. & Hydrogen Plants Safety Concerns GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines, like all chemicals, must be handled safely. Refer to the MSDS of the specific product for more information. GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines can cause serious injury to the eyes. Contact with these amines may even result in permanent eye damage. GAS/SPEC Specialty Amine vapors present low hazards at ordinary temperatures. However, the resulting vapor concentrations can be dangerous when the product is heated. The single dose oral toxicity of GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines is low. Ingestion of small amounts of these amines is not expected to cause injury. However, swallowing large amounts may cause severe burns to the mouth, throat, and digestive tract. GAS/SPEC CS -Plus Solvent and GAS/SPEC CS -Plus Solvent FF are corrosive to the skin and will cause severe bums. The remaining GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines may cause severe irritation to the skin. Occasional brief contact with the skin should be washed off immediately and should have little adverse effects. '1 'GAS/SPEC Operating Manual (rev. 2/2001) Safe Handling, EO5 Strict precautions should be observed when the possibility of exposure exists. A safety shower and eyewash facility should be located nearby. For GAS/SPEC CS -Plus Solvent and GAS/SPEC CS -Plus Solvent FF, a full face shield should be worn when the possibility of splashing of the material in the face exists. For the remaining GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines, chemical goggles should be worn. Also, wear protective clothing, including chemically resistant gloves. The work area should be well ventilated. Emergency Treatment Eve Contact • Flush thorouhly with water. Consult MSDS for the recommended time. • Call physician immediately Skin Contact • Remove contaminated shoes and clothing IMMEDIATELY and thoroughly wash the skin with water. Refer to the MSDS for the recommended time. • If the material is GAS/SPEC CS -Plus, discard contaminated shoes, belts, and other leather products. • Contaminated clothing should be thoroughly cleaned before reuse. • Call physician IMMEDIATELY. Ingestion If swallowed, seek medical attention. Follow instructions on MSDS. Inhalation • Keep vapors below the Occupational Safety and Health Administration [OSHA] Permissible Exposure Limit [PEL] or the American Conference of Government Industrial Hygienists [ACGIH] Threshold Limit Value [TLV]. See guidelines under the Workplace Exposure Limit Section or refer to the product MSDS. • Use respirator if exposure is expected or if irritation is experienced. • Work in a well -ventilated area. LEAS/SPEC Operating Manual (rev. 2/2001) I\EOS For further details on emergency treatment procedures, refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet [MSDS]. Safe Storage and Shipping Storage Materials GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines are not particularly difficult to handle, transfer or store. The products are not corrosive when the following recommended materials are used for storage tanks and gaskets: Storage Tanks: 304L or 316L stainless steel is recommended. Discoloration and iron contaminationf the amine may result if the product is stored in carbon steel tanks. Nitrogen padding of the tanks is also recommended to prevent oxidation and discoloration of the amine during extended storage. Gaskets: Teflon [under 200 °F or 93 °C] or graphite filled. Piping: 316L stainless steel or high density polyethylene [HDPE]. Materials to Avoid: Aluminum, copper, brass, or copper alloy. Storage Temperature GASISPEC Specialty Amines will become very thick and unpourable at temperatures between -17 to -30 °F (-27 to -34 °C). Steam tracing and insulation may be required in cold weather. The recommended minimum temperature for storage and pumping is 20 °F (-6.7 °C). Alkanolamine Shipping Information Drum Shipping The chemical resistance of plastic to GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines has been tested, and HDPE is acceptable for drum shipping. However, specific liners cannot be recommended for all GAS/SPEC amines due to the variation in products. w„wr ra h GASISPEC Operating Manual (rev. 2/2001) IP EOS Bulk Shipping 304L and 316L stainless steel tanks, cars, and tanks are the preferred method of transporting GAS/SPEC amines. For bulk shipping, carbon steel can be used [unless iron or color is a concern]. Special Precautions Do not mix alkanolamine with strong oxidizers, strong acids or halogenated solvents such as ethylene dichloride, methylene chloride or carbon tetrachloride. These chemicals are reactive and when mixed with GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines tend to degrade the product and may cause increases in temperature and/or pressure. Do not mix alkanolamines with nitrosating agents because suspected cancer causing nitrosamines could form. Do not use aluminum to store GAS/SPEC amines because it can result in severe pitting corrosion and discoloration of the product. This problem is accelarated by water and by elevated temperatures. Also, copper, brass, and other copper alloys are readily degraded by amines, forming salts which degrade and discolor the product. For these reasons, these materials should never be used in any storage equipment that comes in direct contact with GAS/SPEC products. Flash Points GAS/SPEC CS -Plus Solvent [flash point, 192 °F or 89 °C] should not ordinarily present a fire hazard except in the case of large leaks or spills. All other GAS/SPEC products have significantly higher flash points and are not normally considered fire hazards. Environmental and Regulatory Issues Biode.'radatian All GAS/SPEC Specialty Amines are based on MDEA, which is readily biodegradable. Studies have shown that microbial acclimation may enhance the product biodegradability. For specific information on the biodegradation of these products, please contact your INEOS representative. :r COUNTY OF GARFIELD - BUILDING DEPARTMENT CORRECTION NOTICE 109 8th St. Suite 303 Glenwood Springs, Colorado Phone 945-8212 Job located at Permit No. 1 have this day inspected this structure and these premises and found the folioyving correctons, needed; Ok 164a. 7 Cdr .1-141:0a pog. n vii1 y .x1/ them doors n s /e4_,674— orse, 4.5 detv- d et-.3t/‘,57L 3 0144 You are hereby notified that the above correction must be Inspected before covering.
