Client: Battlement Mesa, Inc., 73 G Sipprelle Drive, Battlement Mesa, CO 81635. PrQpPsed Construction: Typically one-story wood frame residences without basements, structural floors over crawl space. Slab -on -grade construction in garage areas. Beference: This is a brief summary from Chen & Associates, Inc., subsoil investigation report, Job No. 21,505, dated February 11, 1981 and August 2, 1982. This letter is to provide general information for the prospective owner and is not for construction or design. The complete report should be referenced for other uses. We previously performed a geotechnical site evaluation concerning slope stability and debris flows within the proposed development, reported under our Job No. 11,833, dated January 16, 1975. Subsurface Conditions: Exploratory Holes 9, 10 and Pits 1, 2 and 3 located in Parcel 2-4 indicate 0 to 16 feet of natural silts and clays overlying clayey coarse granular soils. The laboratory tests performed on soil samples from this area indicated typically no expansion (swell) potential upon wetting. One sample tested showed a low expansion potential. Swell potential, where present, is defined below. Volume Change Swell Pressure .well _Potential More than 10% More than 20,000 psf very high 3% - 10% 5,000 - 20,000 psf high 1% - 5% 1,000 - 5,000 psf medium Less than 1% Less than 1,000 psf low Foundation Recommendations: Spread footings designed for an allowable soil bearing pressure of 1,000 psf to 5,000 psf depending on the bearing conditions. Compressive Soils: The natural silts and clays encountered during the investigation are nonexpansive, but are susceptible to compression under conditions of loading and wetting. Some of the near surface soils exhibit excessive settlement potential and may require removal or replacement. Additional subsurface studies should be conducted for final foundation design recommendations.
