BOX 5770 - PAGOSA SPRINGS, CO 81147 (970) 731-4278 - Fax (970) 731-4279 April 25, 2002 Mr. Lowell Walter Pacific Sheet Metal P.O. Box 70 Carbondale, CO 81623 RE: Held Residence Project #2025 Dear Lowell: Pursuant your request we are providing the following criteria for a mechanically vented crawl space system and engineering combustion air system at the subject property. We understand that the project has two crawl spaces - a Targe main crawl space with a 1960 S.F. area and a smaller 330 S.F. space with under the master bedroom. Both crawl spaces have a maximum height of 5'-0". In addition, there are three 75 MBH input gas fired water heaters in the mechanical room which require combustion air. Regarding the crawlspace ventilation requirements: The Targe crawl space will require a minimum of 330 CFM outside air for adequate ventilation. The small crawl space will require a minimum of 60 CFM outside air for adequate ventilation. Install an 8" diameter outside air duct in the main crawl space from the east exterior of the building near the Great Room fireplace to the west side of the crawlspace for intake air. Install exhaust fan CEF-1 at or near the east exterior wall of the crawlspace to pull air through the intake duct noted previously and discharge it through an 8" diameter exhaust duct to the building exterior. The fan should be mounted from the floor of the crawl space or the east crawlspace foundation wall. CEF-1 shall be controlled by a centrally located line voltage humidistat similar to a Honeywell model H46E1013 (Grainger part #2E082) and a low temperature line voltage thermostat similar to a White -Rodgers model 1A10-651 (Grainger part #2E734) installed in series such that the fan will start on high humidity subject to the crawl space temperature being above 40F (adjustable). Extend a 6" diameter outside air duct in the east wall of the master bedroom crawlspace (underthe fireplace) and extend it to the west side of the crawl space. Install exhaust fan CEF-2 in the main crawl space with a connection to the transfer chase which leads from the master bedroom crawlspace to the main crawlspace. CEF-2 shall be controlled by a line voltage humidistat similarto a Honeywell model H46E1013 (Grainger part # 2E082) and a low temperature line voltage thermostat similar to a White -Rodgers model 1A10-651 (Grainger part #2E734) installed in series such that the fan will start on high humidity subject to the crawl space temperature being above 40F (adjustable). The humidistat and thermostat for CEF-2 shall be located in the master bedroom crawlspace. Regarding the combustion air requirements: Using a natural gas heating value of 650 BTU per cubic foot, a maximum natural gas flow rate of 346 cubic feet per hour (CFH) will be required. Twenty (20) CFH of air is required for every CFH of natural gas to provide for complete combustion. Therefore, the total combustion air flow rate required is 6,923 CFH or 115 CFM. Extend a 6" diameter combustion air duct from the building exterior through the main crawl space to the mechanical room. Install CSF -1 in either the main crawlspace or the mechanical room. Provide controls as required to prevent the water heaters from firing if combustion air is not being supplied to the space.
