Box 7912 Aspen, CO 81612 Re: Pau Hana, Ltd., Rakich Well Pumping Test - Effect on Erspamer Well Permit No. 70237-F Dear Jack: At your request, Wright Water Engineers, Inc. (WWE) conducted a pumping test on the Rakich well to evaluate the effect on the Erspamer well located across the road. The Erspamer well is approved by the State under Permit No. 70237-F. The well is located approximately 250 feet uphill from the Rakich well and is inside a building that is used by Architectural Furniture. The pumping test and monitoring of groundwater levels was completed on June 8, 2000. SUMMARY Based on our field observations, review of available information, and pumping test, we offer the following comments. • The two wells pump water from the same aquifer. The Erspamer well is cross -gradient to up - gradient of the Rakich well. • Approximately 4,500 gallons was pumped during an 8 -hour period. The estimated future peak use is 3,550 gallons per day. • The pumping test showed a 0.16 -foot drawdown in the Erspamer well during initial pumping of the Rakich well. Drawdown at the Erspamer well was not observed later in the pumping test. • During the morning cyclic pumping, the pumping well recovered within two minutes and the observation well recovered nearly instantaneously. • The groundwater levels in both wells rose approximately 0.1 -foot during the afternoon. • Pumping of the Rakich well to serve the additional future warehouse uses (estimated at 1,450 gpd) will not result in material injury to the Erspamer well. DENVER 1303) 480-1 700 DURANGO 1970) 259-741 1 BOULDER - (303) 473-9500 1 / • Jack Stanford June 16, 2000 Page 2 BACKGROUND The Rakich well (Permit No. 53392-F) is approximately 69 feet deep and has a static water level at 35.6 feet. The Erspamer well (Permit No. 70237-F) is approximately 80 feet deep and has a static water level at 57.6 feet. The aquifer has an estimated thickness of 25 to 30 feet in this area. The pumping test started at 8:24 a.m. on June 8, 2000. The pump was cycling on and off every five minutes. We located additional faucets and hose bibs to open up and keep the pump running continuously. During the cyclic pumping, we closely monitored the Erspamer well. We observed an instantaneous small drop in water level approximately four minutes after the Rakich well turned on and an instantaneous recovery in the water level approximately one minute later. Water level measurements at the pumping well indicate a drawdown of 0.54 feet within three minutes of pumping. The drawdown remained constant until the afternoon when it rose approximately 0.1 -foot. The Erspamer well also showed a 0.1 -foot rise during the day. Approximately 4,500 gallons of water was pumped from the Rakich well in an 8 -hour period. This exceeds the estimated future peak daily water demand of 3,550 gallons. The existing uses are estimated to have a peak day use of 2,100 gallons and the future warehouse uses are estimated at 1,450 gallons per day. The relatively small drawdown at the pumping well and quick recovery in both wells indicate that the aquifer yields a significantly larger quantity of water that is pumped in the area. A small drawdown was observed at the Erspamer well. The drawdown is relatively insignificant in comparison to the saturated thickness of the aquifer and the small drawdown observed at the pumping well. Based on our observations and the data collected, we believe the Rakich well has an insignificant effect on the Erspamer well. Further, we believe the proposed additional warehouse uses will not result in material injury to the Erspamer well. Please call if you have any questions or need additional information. Box 396 Glenwood Springs, CO 81602 April 19, 2000 RE: Well Permit Application — Pau Hana, Ltd., Glenwood Springs Dear Dwight: Attached is the well permit application to expand the use of the existing well at the Pau Hana, Ltd. property. The existing well was decreed in Case No. W-1015 and recently recorded under Permit No. 53392-F. As you know, the current uses for four residential units and outside irrigation are pre -1977 and covered under the Green Mountain historic user's pool. This proposed additional use would increase the annual pumping from the well by approximately 1.34 acre-feet (see Table 1 for a complete breakdown of water usage and assumptions). The expanded use of the well will be covered by a Basalt Water Conservancy District Water Allotment Contract (see attached application). Pau Hana, Ltd. is coordinating with the owners of the five wells within 600 feet of the well to obtain the necessary 600 -foot spacing waivers.
