Box 1458 GLENWOOD SPRINGS, COLORADO 81602·1458 Monday, August 31'1 , 2009 Andy Schwaller Garfield County Building & Planning Department 108 Eighth Street, Suite 401 Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81601 RE: Stephan Dog, existing ISDS. Dear Andy: We ha ve been asked by Stephan Dog to respond to a reque st by Garfield County that he increase the size of his existing Individual Se wage Disposal System to accommodate his plans to add a bedroom to the existing residence at 848 County Road 106, Carbondale, CO 81623 -2361. This property is recorded in the Garfield County Treasurer's office as hav ing a Parcel Number of 2393-284-00-014 . With regard to the planned expansion to a total of four (4) bedrooms, we would like to direct Garfield County's attent ion t o our original ISDS plan s for this pro ject, of April 1991 , a copy of which is attached. On these plans, our original design calculati o n s used the f o rmula applicable in the State of Colorado, and Garfield County at that time. The original plans are for a pressure-dosed system , discharging septic tank effluent to a concrete-sand mound system . The bas is for des ign of this system was the intended o ccupancy of the residence, being four (4) bedrooms, and the percolation rate of the concrete-sand filter mound proposed for the absorption field. The design for this system was approved by Garfield County, and St e phan Dog was issued a per mit for the septic system serving the residence, with a total of four (4) bedrooms. To the best of our knowledge and recollection, the system was constructed in accordance with the approved and permitted design plans. It is our understanding that the actual residence currently has a total of three (3) bedrooms. It is also our understanding that there ha ve b ee n no failures of the system and no problems w ith its operation to date. Based on the above facts and understandings, it is our belief that the system is adequate to se rv e the existing residence with three (3) bedrooms, as well as being adequate to serve the proposed fourth bedroom, since this is the design basis for the original system as permitted by Garfield County. Ste phan Dog, e xis tin g ISDS adequate fo r 4-bedro oms, p e r o rigi n a l desig n . Monday, Au g us t 3 1 '1 , 2 009 Page 1 o f 2 In addition, we are providing a copy of our current ISDS spreadsheet, w hich is designed to be county-specific, showing that even using today's formulae, and today's allowable surface area for the Infiltrator Standard Chambers, the system, as designed and installed is adequate for the proposed completion of the house to the original four (4) bedroom design . Per our phone conversation on this issue this afternoon, if you would please attach this letter to the permit file for this project, and see to it that whomever has been requesting a modification to the existing system to serve the 4'h bedroom is advised as to the adequacy of the system to deal with a total of four bedrooms . If you have any questions, please call me at (970) 945-2550 extension 206, or email me at tcpage@ gamba enginee ring .com . Sincerely, Gamba & Associates, Inc.
