I. INTRODUCTION:
February 14, 2017
This Report has been prepared at the request of Clayton Homes,
representative for the above referenced property. This Report
addresses the design of an On-Site Wastewater Treatment System to
serve a proposed residence. Public sewer service is not
available.
The procedures used in this report follow the "Garfield County
Health Department On-Site Wastewater Treatment System
Regulations".
II. SOILS AND PERCOLATION TEST:
A test hole was dug in the area of the proposed absorption field
and observed by Garfield County personnel and it was found that
the percolation rate exceeded 5 minutes per inch and because of
this, a registered Professional Engineer was needed to design the
system. Therefore, the Professional Engineer, named above,
performed a second percolation test. The results of that test
are attached hereto. This test confirmed the County's test that
the percolation rate was faster than 5 minutes per inch. The
soil from surface to 12" depth the soil is a loamy clay topsoil.
The material encountered below 12" to 24" was a gravely clay.
Below 24" the soil is a fine, silty, clay, chalky in appearance.
The ground surface where the OWTS absorption bed will be built is
sloping down slightly at about 1% to the west into a natural
drainage swale. Due to the rapid percolation rate it will be
necessary to remove existing soil and replace with concrete sand
with a long term acceptance rate of 0.80 gallons per square foot
per day. Since this is a soil replacement, regulations require
that the bed be pressure dosed.
The bottom of the absorption bed will be set 28" below existing
grade at the north end of the bed.

III. SYSTEM DESIGN:
A. Estimated Sewage Flow: (4 bedrooms)
4 x 150 600 gallons per day
B. Septic Tank
4 bedrooms require 1,500 gallon tank and since a pump in
the second chamber will be needed for the pressure doing, the
tank capacity must be upsized 250 gallons to provide the
necessary detention time, therefore use 1500 gallon tank
C. Absorption Bed:
The absorption bed size is calculated as
follows:
A 600/.80
750 sq. ft.
Adjustment Factors:
Table 5.2 Method of Application is Dosed bed
Factor 1.0
Table 5.3 Type of Distribution is Chambers
Factor 0.70
Bed Size required is 750 x 1.0 x 0.70 525 Sq. Ft.
Total Number of chambers required is 525/12 44 units
Use bed configuration, with 4 rows and 11 chambers per row
for a total of 44 chambers.
