The property outside of Carbondale, in an area where OWTSs and wells are necessary. Original design documents have some changes. Documents dated March 30, 2A17 should be discarded and replaced with these dated April 10,2017 . Legal Description: Sêction: 35 Township: 7 Range:88 TR in Lot 12 Parcel lD: 2393-354-00-025 srrE coNDrtoNS The property is currently developed with a 3-bedroom, single-family residence and is served by an existing OWTS. An addition to the residence is proposed, which will result in one additional bedroom. A bathroom is also proposed in the existing garage. The garage space will include plumbing such as a toilet and sink, but no living area. The plumbing in the garage will be an auxiliary use to the main house. The existing OWTS will be abandoned and replaced with a new OWTS, outlined in this design. The private well serving the subject residence is located just beyond the southern property boundary. An additionalwell serving the adjoining property to the north is located inside the neighboring residence (286 Willow Lane). Both wells must be located a minimum of 50Jeet from the proposed septic tank and a minimum of 1OOJeet from the proposed soil treatment area (STA) The proposed STA is located in the northwest corner of the property. The proposed STA is relatively flat. The Roaring Fork River is located to the north of the subject property, and due to a number of ditches in the area and the elevation of the property relative to the Roaring Fork River, the area is subject to seasonally high groundwater. Looking west looking east Page2 SUBSURFACE The subsurface was investigated on March 29,2017 by digging two soil profile test pit excavations (Test Pits). A mini-excavator was used to excavate the test pits. A visual and tactile soil analysis was completed by Carla Ostberg at the time of excavation.l The materials encountered in the Test Pit #1 consisted of medium brown, moist sandy loam topsoil to 2.5- feet, underlain by light brown sandy gravel with greater than 50% rock content to a maximum depth explored of 6.0{eet. No bedrock or groundwater was encountered; however, we are estimating high seasonal groundwater in this area al2.SJeet below native grade. The materials encountered in Test Pit#2 consisted of light brown, sandy gravel to 1.S{eet, underlain by medium brown, moist sandy loam topsoil to 2.O-feet, underlain by light brown sandy gravel with greater than 50% rock content to a maximum depth explored of 8.OJeet. Groundwater was encountered at 7-feet; however, we are estimating high seasonal groundwater in this area at 2.OJeet below native grade. We observed moüling at approximately 4Jeet below native grade. A tactile analysis of the topsoil was taken from Test P¡t #1. The soil formed a ball and a ribbon less than 1-inch in length before breaking. Soil structure shape was granular, soil structure grade was moderate, and consistence was friable. Soil consistence was more gritty than smooth. This soil is classified as Sandy Loam (Soil Type 2). Soils underlying the topsoil horizon have greater than 50% rock content. This soil is classified as Sandy Gravel (Soil Type 0). An unlined sand filter with a minimum depth of 3-feet of sand filter material is proposed. A long term acceptance rate (LTAR) of 1.0 gallons per square foot will be used to design the OWTS, in accordance with Garfield County On-Site Wastewater Treatment System Regulations, adopted April 14,2014. Test Pit #1 ' Carla Ostberg holds a Certificate of Attendance and Examination from the CPOW Visual and Tactile Evaluation of Soils Training. Page 3 Test Pit #2 Groundwater at 7-feet .. 1 ,É Evidence of mottling at 4-feet DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The existing septic tank and STA will be abandoned in place. The septic tank must be collapsed and remaining void filled with gravel, sand, or compacted soil. Design Calculations: Averáge Design Flow = 75 GPD x 2 people/bedroom x 3 bedrooms + (75 GPD 4th bedroom) = 525 GPD LTAR = 1.0 GPD/SF 525 GPD / 1.0 GPD/SF = 525 SF The new OWTS design is based on 4-bedrooms and plumbing fixtures in the garage will be auxiliary to the main residence. An average daily wastewater flow of 525 GPD will be used. The system installation will include a new 150O-gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with an Orenco@ Biotube Pump Vault and an Orenco@ PF3005 pump in the second compartment of the septic tank. We recommend anchoring the septic tank with Deadmen because of the high seasonal groundwater table. The floats should be set to dose approximately 90 gallons each pump cycle. The control panel for the pump must be located within line of sight of the septic tank. We recommend Valley Precast out of Buena Vista be contracted for start-up of the pumping system. Effluent will be pressure dosed through a 1.5-inch diameter pump line to a mounded, 10'x 52.5' unlined sand filter. The excavation for the sand filter will begin 1.O-foot below native grade. A minimum of 3-feet of sand filter material will be installed in the over-excavated footprint, resulting in 2-feet of sand filter material extending above native grade. Sand filter material must be clean, coarse sand, all passing a screen having four meshes to the inch. The sand must have an effective size between 0.25 and 0.60 mm. The uniformity coefficient must be 4.0 or less. Material meeting ASTM 33, for concrete sand, with one percent or less fines passing 200 mesh sieve may be used. Page 4 Laterals used to disperse the effluent must be surrounded by washed coarse screened gravel or crushed stone. All of the gravel or stone must pass a2lr-inch screen and must be retained on al¿-inch screen. The manifold must be 1.b-inches in diameter. Laterals must be 1.5-inches in diameterwith 5/32-inch diameter orifices facing down, spaced 3{eet on center. We recommend Orenco@ Orifice Shields be installed on the laterals at eaófr orifice. Laterals will begin 3-feet from the edges of the filter, with 2-feet between each lateral. Each 1.5-inch diameter lateral must eid in a sweeping ell facing up with a ball valve for flushing. A soil separation fabric should be placed over the gravel layer followed by approximately 1-foot of topsoil or other suitable soil able to support vegetative growth. The mound must have a minimum 3:1 slope (horizontal:vertical); therefore, the basal area will extend approximately 9-feet beyond the sand filter on all sides (with a mound height of 3-feet above native grade). Säils ¡n the åloped perímeter areas of the mound must be well draining and able to support vegetative growth. This soil must be approved by this office prior to installation. The mound must be crowned in a manner to promote drainage off of the STA. The component manufacturers are typical of applications used by contractors and e_ngineers in this area' Alternatives may be considered oi recommended by contacting our office. Construction must be according to Cãrt¡elO County On-Site Wastewater Treatment System Regulations, the OWTS Permit provided by Garfield County Building Department, and this design. REVEGETATION REQUIREMENTS An adequate layer of good quality topsoil capable of supporting revegetation shall be placed over the entire disturbed area of the OWTS installation. A mixture of native grass seed that has good soil stabilizing characteristics (but without taproots), provides a maximum transpiration rate, and competes well with successional species. No trees or shrubs, or any vegetation requiring regular irritation shall be placed over the STA. Untii vegetation is reestablished, erosion and sediment control measures shall be implemented and maintained on site. The owner of the OWTS shall be responsible for maintaining proper vegetation cover. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The property owner shall be responsible for the operation and maintenance of each OWTS servicing the property. ihe property owner is responsible for maintaining service contracts for manufactured units, alternating STAs, and any other components needing maintenance' Geo-fabrics or plastics should not be used over the absorption area. No heavy equipment, machinery, or materials should be placed on backfilled STAs. Livestock should not graze on the STA. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWTS. For example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a STA. lf an effluent filter or screen has been installed in the OWTS, we recommend this filter or screen be cleaned annually, or as needed. lf the OWTS consists of a pressurized pump system, we recommend the laterals be flushed annually, or as needed. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years, or as needed gauged by measurement of solids in the tank. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non-biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWTS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWTS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWTS. The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste only. Page 5 ADDIT¡ONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES lf design includes a pump, weep holes must be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. The pump shall have an audible and visual alarm notification in the event of excessively high water cãnditions and shall be connected to a control breaker separate from the high water alarm breaker and from any other control system circuits. The pump system shall have a switch so the pump can be manually operated. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation ef the STA due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Backfill over the STA must be uniform and granular with no material greater than minus 3-inch' INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC must view the OWTS during construction. The OWTS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of OWTS components. Septic tanks, distribution devices, þurp", dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted. lf soil conditions encountered are different from conditions describeã in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow applicable county régulations. The cıntractor should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requiremeñts and regulations of the county in which they are working. Licensing of Systems Contractors may be required by county regulation. Please call with questions. Using a Pump Gurve A pump curre helps you delermìne the best pump for your system, Pump curves show the relationship between flow (gpm or L/sec) and pressure (total dynamic head or TDH), providing a graphical representation of a pump's optimal performance range. Pumps perform best at their nominal flow rate - the value, measured in gpm, expressed by the first two numerals in an Orenco pump nornenclature, The graphs in this section show optimal pump operation ranges wìth a solid line, Flow flow rates outsjde 0f these ranges are shown with a dashed line.
