RE:
Snow Toad
Habitat for Humanity Restore

Glenwood Springs, CO 81601
ASl job # 16-537
Amy Rice,
This is in response to the above referenced job and the compliance to the IBC 2015 and
construction documents. The project was designed with a 40 psf roof snow as specified on the
construction documents and Garfield County's website. Job is also designed for roof snow drift
Toad of 102.2 psf in accordance to ASCE 7-10.
Building code provides ground snow so engineers can calculate roof snow and its drift. It is my
understanding that Garfield County has already determined roof snow load of 40.0 psf up to 7000
ft. elevation. To me, ground snow Toad is equal to 40 psf and due to Case Study, Garfield County
does not allow any reduction of snow, therefore, roof snow load of 40 psf has already been set by
the County. Further, the first wall girt is at 3'-0" A.F.F. and will support a ground snow load of
57.2 psf.
If you would have further question please feel free to contact Alliance Steel, Inc. at your
convenience.
Thanks,
A. Mike Heidary, P.E.

Hi Dave,
Please take a look at the attached letter- I believe it provides the core information you are looking for. If there
are additional questions- please email them to Mike and copy me so I can keep the contractor in the loop.
I'll have the revised egress plan to you by end of day Tuesday.
Thanks,
Dana

Subject: Steel Building Specs for Snow Loads
Dana & Steve:
One additional item not included in my previous email memo which we will also need to have verified before permit
issuance concerns the steel building manufacturer's specifications as shown on the cover sheet of their plans.
Snow Load specs called out include the following (as highlighted on the attached PDF):
• Ground Snow Load = 40 psf (as measured at ground level)
• Roof Snow Load = 40 psf (as measured at roof level)
These two items are actually calculated differently and therefore cannot be the same value. For example, the 40 psf
value at Roof Snow Load is typically around 57 psf when measured at ground level. The key value in meeting Garfield
County's requirements is 40 psf at the roof, and it's important that you verify with your supplier's engineer that their
design values comply with these minimum snow load requirements.

Can you please follow-up with your supplier and provide us with any follow-up correspondence from their engincer.of
record stating that their structural design meets our minimum requirements?
Thanks,
Dave Argo
