Consulting Engineers and Hydrologists April 7, 1997 Mr. Ross Jeffery Western Comfort, Inc. P.O. Box 1693 Glenwood Springs, CO 81602 RE: Wayne Treadwell Residence Dear Ross: We have completed the design review of the roof and floor system for the Wayne Treadwell residence in No Name. The following is a summary of our findings: 1. Roof Ridge Beam. The ridge beam size is a 6 3/ " x 13 1/2" glue laminated member (24F -V6 Grade) spanning 18 feet. The design assumes a 40 psf live loading. 2. Roof Cross Beam. The cross beam size is a 6 3/a "x 16 r/z" glue laminated member (24F -V6 Grade) spanning 28 feet. The design assumes a 40 psf live loading. 3. Floor System. The floor joists should be 11 7/8" TJI/25DF by Truss Joist MacMillan placed at 16" c/c and spanning 18 feet. The design assumes a 40 psf live loading and a 15 psf dead load. The joist deflection under maximum loading will be L/365. Deflection under live load is L1502. At your request, the design review did not include the structural review of any other structural members or foundation. If you or the Building Officials have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you. Sincerely, ENARTECH, INC. Charles Peterson, P.E. Adequate and complete information will prevent delays in the plan review process. Reviewing a plan and the discovery that required information has not been provided by the applicant may result in the delay of the permit issuance and in proceeding with building construction. The owner or contractor may be required to provide this information before the plan review may proceed. This causes delays because other plans that are in line for review may be given attention before the new information may be reviewed after it has been provided to the Building Department. Please review this document to determine if you have enough information to design your project and provide adequate information to facilitate a plan review. if you do not, it may be helpful to obtain a book titled "Dwelling Construction under the Uniform Building Code". This book is available to you through this department at our cost. Also, please consider using a design professional for assistance in your design and a construction professional for construction of your project. HER HIGH -EFFICIENCY GAS BOILER The Weil -McLain HE II cast iron gas boiler incorporates induced draft combustion, hot surface ignition, and other energy-saving features to attain over 82% seasonal operating efficiency. This compares to a typical installed boiler that may operate at only 60% seasonal efficiency. The unit is available in four sizes with net I -B -R ratings from 48,000 to 119,000 BTU/Hr. It is designed for forced hot water heating systems in new homes ... or for replacement of older, inefficient heating equipment. The boiler is also ideally suited for individual metering in apartments and condominiums. Outstanding features include modern, compact design; proven combustion technology; unique GCM GOLD Control Module; direct venting; factory testing; and durable cast iron construction. Most important, the HE II is made by Weil -McLain, the leading name in cast iron boilers for over 110 years. MULTIPLE BOILER SYSTEMS Two or more high efficiency HE II boilers can be used in place of one large -capacity boiler to meet the space heating requirements of larger buildings. With multiple boilers, system operating efficiency is increased since the boilers are sequenced so only those required to meet the heating load are fired. In addition, individual boilers may be isolated from the system if service is ever required and additional boilers may be added if heating requirements increase. Weil -McLain also has special Easy -Fit® manifolds to simplify piping and a number of Energy Management Control Systems (FMCS } for multiple boiler applica- tions. Refer to Weil -McLain MBS product literature. DESIGN FEATURES I:='I 82% OPERATING EFFICIENCY. Can reduce annual gas usage by 15% or more. INDUCED DRAFT COMBUSTION SYSTEM. The GCM controls all igni• tion, operating 'and safety , - related functions. In.pddition, its microprocessor continually checks itself 60 time each second. If a situation such as electrical' `noise" or low voltage is encountered, the GCM re- starts and retries, eliminating nuisance lockouts. Four indicator lights—power, purge, ignitor and valve/flame- show proper operation and help make troubleshooting easy without complicated add- on wiring - Plug -in connectors that fit only one way assure mistake - proof wiring if components ever need to be replaced.= And regardless of future control improvements, the GCM design assures new controls will always fit. - Power hook-up is easy too -the furnished J -box is located on the outside of the boiler with prestripped wires.. SEQUENCE OF OPERATION When the thermostat calls for heat-- • GCM GOLD Control Module checks operation of all critical components • GCM starts circulator and blower • Air pressure switch tells GCM proper air flow is present • Hot surface ignitor is energized by the GCM for 20 -second heatup • GCM activates gas valve which opens to ignite main burners • GCM proves flame through hot surface ignitor by flame rectification When the thermostat is satisfied— • GCM closes gas valve and stops circulator • Blower runs for 30 -second post -purge If boiler water temperature reaches the high limit setting— • GCM closes gas valve • Blower continues for 30 seconds • Circulator keeps running The GCM GOLD Control Module provides multiple ignition trials and 100% shutoff. The system is design certified by A.G.A. and all components are U.L. listed. CAST IRON CONSTRUCTION HIGH EFFICIENCY Flue Gas Collector Boiler Sections Insulated Steel Jacket Insulated Steel Base Aluminized Steel Burners Side Outlet Flue Gas Close -off Blower Assembly Cleanout Plate Insulated Inner Jacket Panel The induced draft combustion system increases flue gas velocity through the boiler sections, resulting in rapid heat transfer to the circulating water for higher efficiency and lower fuel consumption. As shown in the diagram, gases are pulled through the boiler sections and heat extractor and discharged through the side outlet into the venting system. The flue gas close -off automatically shuts when the blower is not operating. This exclusive feature retains heat in the boiler, increases efficiency, and eliminates the need for a mechanical vent damper. VENTING FLEXIBILITY Direct Venting Chimney Venting The HE II boiler may be vented directly through an outside wall or through the roof using standard 3 -inch single-wall galvanized vent pipe. In addition, the boiler may be vented into a chimney inside the building, with or without other gas appliances, using single-wall galvanized vent pipe. For extended runs through cold areas—or when venting into a chimney on an outside wall—Type 304 or 316 stainless steel vent pipe must be used. When venting into an outside chimney, the stainless steel vent pipe must run through the entire length of the chimney. Boiler sections are made of cast iron for strength and long life. It's not uncommon - for Weil -McLain cast iron boilers to last 35 years or more. Integral baffles in the vertical flue passages increase flue gas velocity for greater heat transfer and improved efficiency. Modern elastomer sealing rings in the port openings assure a permanent -water- _ tight seal. The flexibility and elastic _memory o£ -these seals (unlikeznetal push nipples) prevent leaks caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
