Fire Protection Plan
To whom this concerns:
The responding fire and EMS agency is Colorado River Fire Rescue (CRFR) and the responding stations
are Station 61 in Silt and the secondary responding station is station 43 in south Rifle. In the case of a
building fire at this location CRFR will be responding with a pumper from station 61, 43 and at least one
2000 gallon water tender from one of the other stations. Station 61 is the closest fire station at just
under 10 miles away.
We try to maintain a full pond that is located on the entrance driveway year round. Due to pond sealer
techniques that were done last year, I have been able to maintain a full pond over the last winter. The
pond level varies through the year depending on livestock watering and irrigation. The pond holds an
estimated 15,000 gallons of water completely full and up to the over flow pipe. The pond is close
enough to the access road so it can be used for drafting purposes with pumper or portable pumps.
Access to the property is open and maneuverable by the fire department apparatus with adequate
turnaround space (see Road and Driveway Plan) in the house, barn and proposed ADU area. We have
consulted with CRFR fire marshal to design and maintain adequate turnaround space for the apparatus.
Our priority to Fire Protection is prevention, cut and maintain grass, remove combustibles from ignition
sources. Minimize fire potentials with sparks and flame; disallow any smoking on the property. Maintain
fire extinguishers in homes and barn.

Wildfire Hazard
The Moon proposed ADU is located in a medium to low wildfire area. The Risk Assessment Wildfire Map
that is on the county website shows the area of the proposed ADU to be in a 5-6 risk assessment. The
Wildfire Map shows # 1 being the lowest risk with # 14 being the highest risk of wildfire. The location of
the proposed ADU is located in an old arena which the top soil is crusher fines (approximate depth of 4")
on graded subgrade. Weeds grow in the arena and are sprayed and disked usually twice a year.
Vegetation around the arena is mostly natural grasses that were planted in the area when the arena was
built. The closest Pinon Juniper tree from the South/West corner of the house site, is 35 yards West up
hill, the other closest Pinon Juniper tree is from the North/East corner of the house site, downhill, 73
yards to the East.
All the grasses around the structures are either grazed by livestock or mowed to reduce fuel during the
dry wildfire season. Reduction of dry fuels aids in limiting destructive wildfires.

Wildlife Impact Analysis
To whom this concerns:
Wildlife in our area consists of Mule Deer, Elk, Bobcats, Mountain lions, Coyotes, Rabbits, Eagles and
Hawks.
Mule Deer are around the existing home mostly during fall, winter, and spring. The location of the
proposed ADU is located in an old riding arena which has been maintained weed and grass free for the 9
years we have lived here. Existing fence around the arena is a pole fence and will probably be taken
down. The other wire fences that exist on the property are in the process of being rebuilt and lowering
the wire to DOW standards for safer access for the deer and elk. The deer have had generally free run of
our property and we don't anticipate any thing changing with the addition of the ADU.
Elk herds are in the area in the fall and spring. The herds generally stay in the hay fields away from the
house and barn when in the area. No impacts to elk are foreseen due to the addition of the ADU.
Bobcats have been seen in the area but not on our property. We have no chickens so we don't
anticipate any impacts to bobcats in the area.
Mountain Lions follow the deer and elk herds, lion tracks have been found on our property but the lions
themselves have not been seen. No anticipated impacts to mountain lions are foreseen.
Coyotes are very abundant in our area and have contributed to the loss of a few family cats and dogs
through the nine years that we have lived here. No anticipated impacts to coyotes are foreseen.
Rabbits are mostly around the barn yard and use the hay stack for dens and protection. The rabbit
population has increased since we have lived on this property. No anticipated impacts to the rabbits are
foreseen.
Eagles and Hawks are always around the house with natural nesting locations on the hill above our
house. No anticipated impacts to the eagles and hawks are foreseen.
