We visited your residence on April 11, 1994 to view a monolithic steel reinforced concrete slab
at the rear of the buildings attached garage. The purpose of our visit was to address Garfield
County Building Department concerns regarding differential movement between the existing
building and the planned enclosure over the slab.
The slab was built in 1986 with the intention of future use as a enclosed shop floor slab. The
slab is in good condition. In our opinion the light wall loads and roof loads planned can be
applied to the slab. The owner should expect some hairline cracking in the slab, however,
additional settlement should be on the order of 1/2 inch which will not adversely affect the
existing structure. A joint to allow movement between the new structure and existing building
should be provided.
