(b) Minimum Voloclties md Circulation. The velocity and circulatioo of air
in WOJlr. areas shall be such that contaminants are captured by an airstream at the
area where the emissions are geoerated aod conveyed into a product-ronveying
duct system. Mixtures within work areas where contaminants are generated shall
be diluted below 25 pereeot of their lower explosive limit or lower flammability
limit with air which does not contain olher contaminants. The velocity of air
within the duct shall be not Jess than set forth in Table No. 11-~,, ? '( :1 ..J f: •( M
Systems for removal of vapors, gases aod smoke shall be designed by lbe

ventilation system. Makeup-air intakes shall be located so as to avoid recin:u!a-
tion of contaminated air within enclosures.
Hoods and EnclOBLlf88
Sec. 11-06.. Hoods and enclosures shall be used when co1Uaminants originate in
a oooceunarcd area. The design of the hood or enclosure shall be 5ucli that air
currents created by lbe exhaust systems will capture the contamintmts and trans-
port them directly to the exhaust duct. The vc!wne of~ shall be sufficient to
dilote explosive or flammable vapors, fumes oc dusts as set forth in Sectioo 1105
(b). Hoods of steel shalJ have • base metal thickness not less thao .027 inch (22
gage) for Class I aod Class 5 metal duct systems; .033 inch (20 gage) for hoods
sexving a Class 2 duct system; .044 inch (18 gage) for hoods serving a Class 3 do ct
system; aod .068 inch (14 gage) for hoods serving a Class 4 duct system.
Approved oonmetallic hoods and duct sysroms may be uoed for Class 5 corrosive
systems when the corrosive mixture is nonflammable. Metal hoods used with
Class 5 do ct systems shall be protected with suitable corrosion-resistant material.
Edges of hoods shalJ be rounded. The minimum clearance between hoods aod
oombusuble construction shall be lbe clearanoe required by the duct system.
Product-conveying Ducts
Sec. 1107. (a} Classlficatiou. Product-conveying ducts shall be classified
aooording to !bell' use. as fo!low:s;
Class I. Ducts conveying nonabrasives, such as smoke, spray, mists, fogs,
ooncorrosive fumes and gases, light fine dusts oc powders.
-Claa l. Ducts conveying moderately abrasive particulate in light conceotra·

Closs 3. Ducts conveying Class 2 materials in high oonoentratioos and highly
