Its streamlined appearance and high performance make it the choice of discerning solar professionals. Each panel is anodiied in a bronze color to provide an attractive, durable, scratch-resistant surface. The two piece extruded aluminum frame offers maximum strength, minimun1 weight, and excellent integrity against unwanted air or moisture intrusion. The glazing cap strip is easily removed from the face of the collector, allowing access to the interior of the panel or the glazing without removing the collector from operation. Structural mounting is made simple and secure by the integral mounting channel. A Novan innovation, the channel accepts a %" bolt or jam nut which can then be moved to any point around the perimeter of the collector. This allows extremely secure mounting connections without penetrating the collector in any way. Novan's complete, pre-packaged mounting systems combine with the mounting channel to make even the most difficult mounting situations simple and secure. The attractive mounting hardware is made up of bronze-anodized aluminum and black-oxidized stainless steel hardware. The absorber plate in an Optima II collector is entirely copper for excellent heat transfer, total fluid compatibility, and many years of reliable performance. Riser tubes are spaced two inches apart to maximize efficiency and brazed into one inch flow-through headers. This absorber configuration results in a very low pressure drop, while minimizing field- installed piping around the collectors. Rugged EPDM seals isolate the copper absorber from the aluminum frame. absorb expansion, and prevent unwanted infiltration. Two absorber coatings are available: non-selective black paint and selective black chrome. In general, the electroplated black chrome coating is the most appropriate due to its superior thermal performance. Optima II collectors are glazed with low-iron tempered glass which is textured to reduce reflected glare. This glass adds an extra measure of safety and performance. A one- piece EPOM gasket surrounds the glass, providing a complete. reliable seal. II desired, installed collectors can be surrounded with Novan's collector trim kits. Anodized a bronze color to match the collector frames. these are used to conceal mounting hardware and piping. The trim kits give the appearance of collectors flashed into a roof, without the difficulty and potential liability of such an approach. All Optima collectors are covered by a full ten-year warranty. including parts, labor and shipping, against defects in material and workmanship_ A standard three year warranty covers corrosion of the absorber plate. unless the collector is installed with a Novan Optimizer module and charged with Brayco 888 heat transfer fluid. In this case. the collector is covered by a full ten-year warranty against corrosion. Please refer to the actual warranty, available upon request. Tests were conducted in accordance with SRCC Standard 100-81, using ASHRAE Standard 93-77. The graphs shown indicate performance lor gross area of the collector. Flow rate for the test was .61 GPM (37SC, 38SC), .88 GPM (48SC). or 1.11 GPM (410SC. 68SC) of water. Performance values calculated for net aperture area are: FR TU= .823 FAUL= .957 (37SC, 38SC) FA rn = .823 FAUL= .849 (48SC) FA TO= .839 FRUL = .811 (410SC, 68SC) The incidence angle modifier, K ar, describes the decrease in efficiency of a collector al non- zero incidence angles. K uT varies with incidence angle according to the equation: K oT = b 0 ( ___ 1_-1) coso where b0 = incidence angle modifier constant and H = incidence angle. The incident angle modifier constant b0 , for this collector is -_ 192 (37SC, 38SC) or -.234 (48SC, 410SC, 68SC). The time constant is a measure of the time required for the collector to respond to changes on solar radiation level or inlet temperature. The measured time constant for the Optima II collectors is 1.4 minutes (37SC, 38SC), .87 minutes (48SC) or 1-24 minutes (410SC, 68SC).
