Subject:Observation of Excavation, Proposed Residence, Lot D-12, Aspen Glen, 255
Snorvcap Circle, Garfield County, Colorado
Gentlenren:
As requested, a representative of I'l-P/Kumar observed the excavation at the subject site on
February 17,2017 to evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The flrndings of our
observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presented in this report. ly'e
previously conducted a subsoil study for design of fot¡ndations at the site and presented our
findings in a report dated October 6, 2016, Project No. l6-7-431.
The residence foundation is designed for the recornmendsd allorvable soil bearing pressure of
1,500 psf at basement level or on at least 4 feet of compacted onsite soils at shallower depth.
At the time of our visit to the site, the foundation excavation for the residence area had been cut
in one level from 6lo 7 feet l¡elorv the adjacent ground surface, The garage area had not been
excavated. The soils exposed in the bottom of the excavation consisted of slightly clayey sandy
silt. No free lvater was encountered in the excavation and the soils rvere slightly moist and free
of frost,
The soil conditions exposed in the excavation are consistent with those previously encountered
on the site and can be used for support of spread footings designed for the recommended
allowable bearing pressure of 1,500 psf. Loose disturbed soils in the footing areas should be
moistened and compacted. The garage footing areas should be sub-excavated 4 feet and the soil
replaced compacted. Other recommendations presented in our previous report u'hich are
applicable should also be observed.

The recommendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils exposed
rvithin the foundation excavation and the prevíous subsurrface exploration at the site. Variations
in the subsurface conditions belorv the excavation could increase the risk of foundation
movement. We should be advised of any variations encountered in the excavation conditions for
possible changes to recommendations contained in this letter. Our services do not include
determining the presence, prevention or possibility of mold or other biological contaminants
(MOBC) developing in the future. lf the client is concerned about MOBC, then a professional in
this special field of practice should be consulted.
Ifyou have any questions or need further assistance, please call our office.
