The installation included the existing septic tank with the addition of an effluent filter, followed by 3 rows of gravelless chamber trenches. Each trench had 13 `Quick -4' chambers for a total of 39 chambers, equaling 385 SF of infiltrative area. Effluent is distributed via serial distribution. As noted in the design, irrigation must be diverted or turned off to alleviate ground water conditions near the drain field. The OWS was installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWS. LIMITS: The observations were based on information submitted. If conditions are different from conditions described in this letter, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All additional OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Please call with questions. The property is located in Rifle Creek, Garfield County, in an area where OWS and wells are necessary. SITE CONDITIONS A 2 -bedroom residence currently exists as indicated on Figure 1. The existing drain field is experiencing problems and must be properly abandoned. The existing septic tank is in good condition and can be used with the proposed OWS. The slope in the area of the proposed drain field is approximately 10% to the east, and vegetation consists of native grasses. SUBSURFACE The subsurface was investigated by `HP Geotech' on June 23, 2008. The investigation included a 6 -foot test pit, and three percolation holes, in the area of the proposed drain field, as indicated on Figure 1. The test pit indicated the site has about 6 inches of topsoil, underlain by sandy silty clay to 4.5 feet, underlain by sandy clay and gravel to the maximum depth explored of 6 feet. Free water was observed at a depth of 5.5 feet in the Profile Pit by our firm on August 8th 2008. The owner indicated that irrigation was used in the area of the Profile Pit, and that the water subsided after the irrigation was turned off. Percolation rates ranged from 20 to 40 minutes per inch (MPI). A 33 MPI rate will be used to design the OWS. Onsite Wastewater Systems Page 2 DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWS design is based on 2 -bedrooms and an average sewage load of 300 GPD. The installation must include the existing, two-compartment, precast concrete septic tank, with an effluent filter added to the outlet. Three gravelless chamber trenches must be installed as indicated on Figure 2. Three rows of 13 `Quick 4' chambers, for a total of 39 chambers, and 385 square feet (SF) of infiltrative area, are required. The chambers must be installed 18 -inches below grade. Six inches of soil must be placed on the excavated areas to maintain a minimum 2 -foot depth, as indicated on Figure 2. Serial distribution must be used to distribute effluent. Irrigation must not be used in the area of the new drain field and the drain field must be at least 100 feet from any well. Construction must be according to the county ISDS regulations, the septic permit provided by Garfield County Environmental Health Department, and this design. This design for the subject property, noted above, is valid only in conjunction with the approved County Health Department permit. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in drain field performance. Erosion control should be practiced prior to and during re -vegetation. Geo - fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. No heavy equipment, machinery, or materials should be placed on backfilled drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic waste only. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Access to all tank compartments and distribution devices is optimal. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. Onsite Wastewater Systems Page 3 LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Please call with questions. Percolation Testing, Replacement Septic System, Existing Residence, 1044 State Highway 325, Rifle Creek, Garfield County, Colorado Dear Mr. Powers: As requested by you, Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc., performed percolation testing at the subject site. The work was done in accordance with our agreement for professional services to you, dated June 16, 2008, A profile pit and three percolation test holes had been excavated at the locations shown on Figure 1. The subsoils exposed in the Profile Pit, below about 6 inches of topsoil, consisted of sandy silty clay to 414 feet overlying sandy clay and gravel to the bottom pit depth of 6 feet. The results of a percent finer than sand size gradation analysis performed on a sample of gravelly sandy silt and clay. minus No. 4 sieve fraction is 66%. Free water was observed in the Profile Pit at 4'A feet below ground surface and the upper soils were moist to very moist. Percolation test holes were hand dug and soaked with water on June 15, 2008. Percolation testing was conducted. on June 16, 2008, by a representative ofHepworth - Pawlak Geotechnn al, Inc. The percolation test results are summarized on Table 1. The percolation rates varied from 20 to 40 minutes per inch with an average of 33 minutes per inch. USDA soil classification is clay loam with an LTAR of .30 gallons per square foot per day. We understand that the water' in the Profile pit was due to nearby irrigation and when the irrigation was shut off, the pit dried out, The irrigation practices will be changed to keep this area from being flooded.
