On October 2nd we observed the installation of the drain field. The mounded drain field consisted of 6 rows of 16 `Quick -4' chambers placed on imported sand filter material. A concrete distribution box and a level PVC manifold were installed to distribute effluent. On November 13th we observed to the installation of a 1500 -gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with a Biotube pump vault. On January 15th 2008 we observed the working condition of the Biotube pump vault. The pump and alarm were in place, and working, at the time of our observation. E3 Group should ensure pump is activated prior to occupancy. During our observation on January 15th 2008 we observed two conditions needing correction: (a) freezing conditions in the pumping chamber of the septic tank and (b) a detached splice box. We recommend the following: 1. Secure the splice box to the wall of the riser. Access to the splice box must be maintained. 2. Insulate the lid and riser (with Blue Board or equivalent) to minimize frost conditions. NOTE: To allow room for the splice box and insulation, place a `short' 30 -inch riser and lid on the pumping compartment of the septic tank. Remove the existing 24 -inch riser. Grade soil to top of lid. As an alternative to the insulation, a `stock -tank' heater may be placed in the riser, and activated only during winter conditions. The OWS was installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWS. Installation Observations January 16, 2008 Project No. 1381 Page 2 LIMITS: The observations were based on information submitted. If conditions are different from conditions described in this letter, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All additional OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working Please call with questions. The property is located in an area where OWS are necessary. This letter is to be used in conjunction with plans provided. SITE CONDITIONS A three to four-bedroom residence is proposed as indicated on plans provided. The site is currently vacant. The slope is approximately 5% to the southeast. Vegetation consists of a moderate cover of native grasses and weeds. Water will be provided to the site by an onsite well as shown on Figure 1. SUBSURFACE Subsurface conditions consisted of clayey, silty, sand to 1 foot, underlain by alluvial cobbles in a silty, sand matrix to the maximum depth observed of 8 feet. Groundwater was observed in an onsite well at 4.5 feet. An application rate of 0 72 gallons per square foot per day (gal/fl /day) will be used for this site. DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWS design is based on 4 bedrooms, an average sewage load of 600 GPD, and an application rate of 0.72 gal/ft2/day. A partially -mounded gravelless chamber -bed drain field must be installed. The bed must consist of six rows of 16 Infiltrator® Quick4TM gravelless chambers for a total of 96 chambers and 883.2 &of infiltrative area, as indicated on plans provided. The installation must include a 1500 -gallon, two-compartment, concrete septic tank with a Biotube® pump vault in the second compartment. Tank alternatives may be considered. A level manifold will be used to OWS Design Project No. 1381, 8/27/07 Page 2 distribute effluent. Construction must be according to the county ISDS regulations, the septic permit provided by Garfield County Environmental Health Department, and this design. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in drain field performance. Geo -fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic waste only. If easements have been encroached upon, it is the homeowner's responsibility to understand potential issues. We can be contacted for information regarding easements. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Septic tank risers should extend to grade. Access to all tank compartments and distribution devices is optimal. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Please call with questions.
