1.02 General Description of the Project
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT There are several driving factors as we consider this project to add an Accessory Dwelling unit (ADU) and hope that the Director will see and understand our vision and grant approval for our project. First, we are parents of a large family including twelve (12) children, four (4) of whom have been legally adopted from the Colorado Foster Care System. We have lived in Garfield county for nearly 13 years and while we loved our first home in this area, the lot size was limiting particularly as it related to building or renovating a home that would best accommodate the physical limitations of some of our children. With the larger lot, we are able to build a wider footprint to keep all home features on a single level as opposed to vertically in a basement or a second floor. Further as all of our children grow and have children of their own it is our desire to have an ADU on the property that allows us to welcome our family back with reasonable room to accommodate them. It also allows us to assist them if they fall on particularly hard times and need a place to stay. This ADU will include guest rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and family gathering rooms. We hope with this addition of an ADU that this property will be a place for our family to gather and hold as a treasure for years to come.
