Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Installation Observations
0097 CR 114
Garfield County, Colorado
Septic Permit Number SEPT -2-14-3103
Ron and Teresa,
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC observed the installation of the onsite wastewater treatment system
(OWTS) on February 12th and 13th for the subject property. Avalanche Excavation installed the
system.
The installation included the replacement of the 4 -inch sewer line from the building to the septic tank.
A clean-out was added within 5 -feet of the building. The existing septic tank was pumped and found
to be in good condition. Estimated size of the tank is 1000 -gallons; however, backflow from the
existing absorption area resulted in more gallons pumped than actual tank capacity.
New risers and lids were added to both the inlet and outlet sides of the septic tank. The inlet baffle
was found to be in good condition. A tee with an effluent filter was installed inside of the existing
outlet baffle. Lids were covered with approximately 2 -inches of soil. There is an effluent filter
inside the second compartment of the septic tank. This filter must be cleaned annually, or as
needed.
Effluent gravity flows to a new drywell, entering approximately 3 -feet below grade. The drywell
consists of 18 -inches of gravel at the base of the drywell. Two 3 -foot high, 4 -foot diameter
perforated concrete rings were installed under a 1 -foot solid ring where the inlet pipe comes into the
drywell. Additional 1 -foot solid rings were used to bring the drywell to grade for accessibility.
Distribution gravel surrounding the rings is between '/2" and 2 '/2" in diameter. The drywell is
accessible via a manhole lid. No observation pipe was installed. The existing absorption area was
abandoned in place. We recommend eliminating irrigation in the area of the drywell.
The drywell was sized to accommodate 10 office employees working 8 -hour shifts, or an estimated
average daily wastewater flow of 150 gallons/day (GPD) and design flow of 225 GPD. Fixtures in
the warehouse include 2 toilets, 2 bathroom sinks, 1 shower, and 1 kitchen sink. Dimensions of the
drywell were increased during installation for a total infiltrative area of 325 square feet. With this
capacity, the system should be able to accommodate an average daily wastewater flow of 238 GPD
and a design flow of 357 GPD. We strongly recommend installation of a water meter to more
accurately measure water usage. Actual water usage should not exceed the design flow.
The OWTS was generally installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee
of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if
changes are made to the OWTS in the future. Any additional OWTS construction must be according
to the county regulations.
LIMITS:
Observations are limited to components that are visible at the time of the inspection. The installer
must have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the
county in which they are working. The quality of the installation is dependent of the expertise of the
installer, soil type, and weather conditions.
Please call with questions.
Sincerely,
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC
