(Signal. of a.411110 towner) Last Revised: 07/25/2005 %te-1.0,0 Da GLASS EQUIPMENT We use two ovens for producing our glass art works. One oven is used to melt the glass. It is natural gas fired and is normally at 1900 degrees F. We use Protection Controls Protectofier to safeguard the system for continuous, automatic protection against buildup of combustible fuel mixtures due to flame failure or electrical faults. A PC II UV Scanner is connected to the Protectofier. In case of flame failure, the Scanner and Protectofier shut down the inbound gas valve. We also wire into the circuit an Antunes Controls Gas Pressure switch and an Antunes Controls air flow interlocking safety switch. These switches shut down the system incase of low or high gas pressure or in case of low air pressure. If the combustion blower should fail due to a motor burnout or electrical interruption, then the air pressure switch shuts the system down. Temperature control in the oven is controlled by Partlow systems controllers. Our other oven (called an annealer or lehr) is used to hold the cast glass at a constant temperature (about 950 degrees F) to relieve the stresses in the glass and then to slowly bring the temperature down to ambient, about an 8 day process.. This oven is powered by electricity. The temperature is adjusted according to a preset program in an Omega controller. This controller has an Alarm phase so that if the temperature should exceed our predetermined number, the controller mechanically cuts off the power to the unit. Both of these units are fully insulated by AP Green soft and hard brick and the exteriors of the units can be touched when they are in operation. We have operated this kind of equipment with these protection controls at this studio and at a prior studio for 14 years and have never had any problem. During this time there have been gas failures and electrical failures and in every case the systems have simply shut down the equipment as they are programmed to do. REGULATED PURGE AIR* BURNER 1i Both proper wire selection and routing are essential to the reliable operation of the combustion safeguard. The wire must be rated for a minimum of 600V and for the maximum ambient temperature. Sensor wire may be either solid or stranded and should be plastic insulated such as TW, TH, THHN, or MTW. Number 14 AWG wire is normally used - minimum wire size is 18 AWG. Heavier wire may produce a slightly higher micro- ampere reading. Cloth, rubber, or asbestos insulated wire, microphone cable, twisted pairs, and multi - conductor cables should not be used due to their contaminent absorbtion and/or capacitance characteristics. The wire should not be spliced nor should pulling compound be used. Flame sensor wire lengths Tess than 50 feet may be combined with nominal amperage 115V 60 Hz control wiring. Wire lengths over 50 feet should be run in a separate conduit. Wire lengths exceeding 150 feet are not recommended although lengths in excess of 250 feel have been used sucessfully. If lead lengths are over 150 feet, moving the combustion safeguard closer to the burner is recommended. If distances over 150 feet cannot be avoided, a low capacitance shielded cable such as RG62AU should be used. This cable is available — see Price Bulletin PAR. The maximum distance between the flame sensor and the combustion safeguard depends upon burner adjustment, sensor, routing, wire and external sources of interference. RG62AU COAXIAL SHIELDED CABLE Flame sensor wire acts like a capacitor to the conduit which reduces the sensor operating voltage and lowers the returned signal. The lower the capacitance of the wire, the better the signal that can be returned to the flame safeguard. To achieve maximum distance, the shield of the RG62AU cable should be floating (not grounded) at both ends. To minimize external coupling interference, the shield should be grounded at both ends although this will reduce the lead length that can be satisfactorily run. External electromagnetic radiation will adversely affect operation of the flame sensor and combustion safeguard. Sensor wire must never be run with power wiring such as motor control, high voltage wiring such as ignition transformers or direct current wiring such as SCR motor control, proportional motors and thermocouple wires. Conduit should be routed away from high current devices such as motors, transformers or buss bars, especially if they have a direct current componet. Sensor wire must be kept away from induction furnaces and powerful R.F. transmitters. AfuWddi!ry'r', AMINES goGOV0010 DIVISION OF A.J. ANTUNES & CO. SAS PRESSURE SWITCHES MODEL -A INSTALLATION INFORMATION You are installing one of the finest gas pressure switches of its type on the market. Design of these switches is based on the same principles of sensitivity, accuracy, and dependability that have made Antunes Controls Air Flow switches so successful. These switches are fully approved. They are U.L. and C.S.A. listed and approved by Factory Mutual. Antunes Controls Gas Pressure switches monitor gas pressure. The models are available in high pressure and low pressure single gas switches and also in a double Hi -Lo combination switch. Pressure range varies from 1 inch of water column to 50 inches of water column. The combination switch provides both high pressure and low pressure units in one switch. This saves wiring and installation space over an interlock system with separate high pressure and low pressure switches. Each switch is adjustable within its range, as shown on the range scale on the front. The latch position in the reset type models, and lever indicator position in the recycle type models shows whether the switch is on or off. ,t.rw.+. q.! dznig lki` Rid IIa49n" 7 r 1, Gry111PA: iiA RANGE ADJUSTMENT—All Models To adjust gas pressure cut-off setting on either high or low pressure units, remove the electrical junction box cover, and adjust indicator up or down to desired set- ting, as shown on the range scale on front of switch. Use the center of the range indicating tab as a guide for accurate setting. Turn adjusting screw clockwise to lower the set point and counterclockwise to raise the setting. To prevent tampering with setting after adjust- ment, be sure to replace the junction box cover firmly. Switches are sturdy. All components are well made. The switch is neat in appearance, in its die-cast aluminum housing. In every way, you will be pleased with the ease of installation and the reliability of Antunes Controls Gas Pressure switches. Please read this folder carefully to assure correct instal- lation. This equipment must be installed only by a li- censed electrician who is experienced with combustion safeguard control systems and understands the func- tions of interlocking switches such as air and gas pres- sure switches. Installation & Maintenance Instructions 2 -WAY INTERNAL PILOT -OPERATED SOLENOID VALVES NORMALLY CLOSED OPERATION - 3/8", 1/2", OR 3/4" NPT SERIES 8215 Form No.V5495R3 IMPORTANT: See separate solenoid installation and maintenance instructions for information on: wring, Solenoid Temperature, Causes of Improper Operation, Coil, or Solenoid Replacement. DESCRIPTION Series 8215 valves are 2 -way normally closed internal pilot -operated sole- noid valves. Valve bodies are made of rugged aluminum with trim and inter- nal parts made of steel and stainless steel. Series 8215 valves may be pro- vided with a general purpose, explosionproof, or watertight/explosionproof solenoid enclosure. OPERATION Normally Closed: Valve is closed when solenoid is de -energized; open when energized. NOTE: No minimum operating pressure differential required. INSTALLATION CAUTION: Not all valves are approved for fuel gas service. Check name- plate for correct catalog number, pressure, voltage, frequency, and service. Never apply incompatible fluids or exceed pressure rating of the valve. In- stallation and valve maintenance to be performed by qualified personnel. Future Service Considerations Provision should be made for performing seat leakage, external leakage, and operational tests on the valve with a nonhazardous, noncombustible fluid after disassembly and reassembly. Temperature Limitations For maximum valve ambient and fluid temperatures, refer to chart below. Check catalog number prefix on nameplate to determine maximum tem- peratures. Construction AC or DC Coll Insulation Class Catalog Number Prefix Max. Ambient Temp°F Max. Fluid Temp°F AC F None 125 125 H H 140 140 DCF 11.2 watts or H None or HT 77 77 DC 11.6 watts F or H NoB 104 104 Positioning AC Construction: Valve is designed to perform properly when mounted in any position. However, for optimum life and performance, the solenoid should be mounted vertical and upright so as to reduce the possibility of foreign matter accumulating in the solenoid base sub -assembly area. DC Construction: Valve must be mounted with solenoid vertical and upright. Mounting For mounting bracket (optional feature) dimensions, refer to Figure 1. Piping Connect piping to valve according to markings on valve body. Apply pipe compound sparingly to male pipe threads only. If applied to valve threads the compound may enter the valve and cause operational difficulty. Avoid pipe strain by properly supporting and aligning piping. When tightening the pipe, do not use valve or solenoid as a lever. Locate wrenches applied to valve body or piping as close as passible to connection point. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the valve body DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN PIPE CONNECTIONS. If Teflon* tape, paste, spray, or similar lubricant is used, use extra care when tightening due to reduced friction. • Automatic Switch Co. MCMXCI All Rights Reserved. IMPORTANT: To protect the solenoid valve, install a strainer or filter, suitable for the service involved, in the inlet side as clowtothe valve as possible. Clean periodically depending on service conditions. See ASCO Series 8600, 8601. and 8602 for strainers. MAINTENANCE WARNING: To prevent the possibility of personal injury or property damage, turn off electrical power,,depressurize valve, extinguish all open flames and avoid any type of sparking or ignition. Vent hazardous or combustible fluid to a safe area before servicing the valve. NOTE: 11 is not necessary to remove the valve from the pipeline for repairs. Service Notice CAUTION: Series 82150 and 8215G. valve parts are not interchangeable with Series 821511 valves. Series 8215$ valves have a different valve body and a core/diaphragm sub -assembly with a diaphragm disc. Interchanging parts will cause valve malfunction. See Figure 1 for identification of parts. Cleaning All solenoid valves should be cleaned periodically. The time between clean- ings will vary depending on the medium and service conditions. In general, if the voltage to the coil is correct. sluggish valve operation, excessive noise or leakage will indicate that cleaning is required. In the extreane case, faulty valve operation will occur and the valve may fail to open or close. Clean valve strainer or filter when cleaning the valve. Preventive Maintenance I. Keep the medium flowing through the valve as free from dirt and foreign material as possible. 2. While in service, the valve should be operated at least once a month to insure proper opening and closing. 3. Depending on the medium and service conditions, periodic inspection of infernal valve parts for damage or excessive wear is recommended. Thoroughly clean all parts. If parts are worn or damaged, install a complete ASCO Rebuild Kit. Causes of Improper Operation 1. incorrect Pressure: Check valve pressure. Pressure to valve must be within range specified on nameplate. 2. Excessive Leakage: Disassemble valve and clean all parts. If parts are worn or damaged, install a complete ASCO ,Rebuild Kit. Valve Disassembly 1. Remove solenoid, see separate instructions. 2. Unscrew solenoid base sub -assembly and body gasket. 3. Remove bonnet screws, valve bonnet, solenoid base gasket, core/ diaphragm sub -assembly and body gasket. 4. Al! parts are now accessible to clean or replace. If parts are worn or damaged, install a complete ASCO Rebuild Kit. Valve Reassembly 1. Lubricate solenoid base gasket and body gasket with DOW CORNING® 200 Fluid lubricant or an equivalent high-grade silicone fluid. 2. Install body gasket and core/diaphragm sub -assembly in valve body. Locate the bleed hole in the diaphragm assembly approximately 45° from valve outlet. T'ne core/diaphragm sub -assembly is comprised of a rider ring, core spring, core guide, hanger spring, core assembly, and diaphragm assembly. CAUTION: Do not distort hanger spring between core assembly and diaphragm assembly.
