HomeMy WebLinkAboutOWTS Design Report 03.21.2018March 21, 2018 Mr. Andy Schwaller Garfield County Community Development Building Official 108 8th St. Suite 401 Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 Dear Andy, Enclosed is the Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) permit application for the residence at 0283 Sunny Acres Rd., Glenwood Springs, CO 81601. Attached is a plan view of the residence which shows the current septic system and also the proposed leach field repair locations. Repairs are required on the 25 year old septic/ leach system due to sewer backup issues. In order to pinpoint the problem, the 4" PVC sewer pipe between the foundation wall and the septic tank, as well as the pipe between the septic tank and the leach field (infiltrators) was pressure jetted and inspected by camera. The rubber fernco coupling, which connects the sewer pipe at the foundation wall, had slipped off of the pipe. Sewer water could not flow freely to the septic tank. Necessary repairs have already been made to correct the problem and restore drainage to the septic tank. During the inspection process, root growth on the inside of some infiltrators was detected. To prevent future leaching issues it is necessary to make repairs and replacements to the system. The plan is to remove and replace some existing root filled infiltrators in accessible locations and place additional infiltrators at a new location. The original design required 249 Sq.Ft. of leaching area. It proved to be totally adequate over 25 years of service. The repairs that are proposed will also provide 249 Sq.Ft. of leach area. The Infiltrations Systems, "Quick 4 Plus Standard Chamber", will be utilized. Should it be determined, during the field work, that it is necessary to place infiltrators under the main portion of the driveway, Infiltrations Systems "High Capacity Infiltration Chamber H-20" infiltrators will be used. Miles Rippy Excavating, Inc. is being contracted to perform the work. We hope to have the work permit in hand so that he may proceed as soon as his work schedule allows.
