Subsurface lnvestigation and Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Design
3-Bedroom Residence
Lot 13, Rock Creek Subdivision
Garfield County, Colorado
Tim
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC performed a subsurface investigation and completed an onsite wastewater
treatment system (OWTS) design for the subject residence. The 5.04-acre property is located outside of
Carbondale in an area where OWTSs are necessary. We have changed the location of the soil treatment
area (STA) slightly. Original design documents dated March 15,2018 should be discarded and replaced
with these design documents dated April 5, 2018.
Legal Description: Section: 4 Township: I Range: 88 Subdivision: ROCK CREEK SUB LTS 12-13 AMD
Lot: 13
Parcel lD: 2463-041-09-013
SITE CONDITIONS
The property is currently developed with a single-story wood frame house and a 2-story barn and
additional dwelling unit (ADU). The single-story wood frame house will be demolished and replaced with
a new, 3-bedroom, single-family residence. The OWTS serving the single-story wood frame house will
be abandoned and replaced with the OWTS proposed in this design, The existing O\MI-S serving the 2-
story barn and ADU is served by an existing OWTS that will remain and is not addressed in this design.
The residences on the property are served potable water by a shared water system. The water line runs
to the north of the existing driveway. The water line will not come within 25-feet of any of the proposed
OWTS components.
The proposed soil treatment area (STA) location is relatively flat and is part of the currently inigated yard
area.
SUBSURFACE
The subsurface was investigated on February 15,2018 by digging four soil profile test pit excavations (Test
Pits). A mini-excavator was used to excavate the test pits. A visual and tactile soil analysis was completed
by Carla Ostberg at the time of excavation.l
The materials encountered in the Test Pit #1, #2, and #3 consisted of dark brown topsoil from 6-inches to
18-inches, underlain by medium brown loamy sand with 2-inch to 2-foot diameter cobbles to a maximum

Evaluation of Soils Training.
Page2
depth explored of 3-feet to 4-feet. The rock content in all three test pits exceeded 35%. No bedrock or
groundwater was encountered.
The materials encountered in the Test Pil H consisted of dark brown topsoil to 6-inches, underlain by
medium brown loamy sand with some cobbles to a maximum depth explored of 7-feet. The rock content
in Test Pit M did not exceeded 35%. No bedrock or groundwater was encountered; however, we did
observe some mottling approximately 2-feet below grade. This test pit was excavated in an area of the yard
with a sprinkler system. We speculate this mottling is a result of the irrigation system. A piezometer has
been placed in the test pit to monitor through Spring runoff.
A sample was taken from Test Pil #4 at 2-feet below grade. The soit formed a ball but did not form a
ribbon. Soil structure shape was single grain, soil structure grade was moderate, and consistence was
loose.
STA sizing is based on Soil Type 1, Loamy Sand with granular structure type and moderate structure
grade. A long term acceptance rate (LTAR) of 0.8 gallons per square foot will be used to design
the OWTS, in accordance with Table 10-l Soil Type 1 presented in the Garfield Gounty On-Site
Wastewater Treatment System Regulations, adopted April 14, 2014.

DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
The existing septic tank and STA will be abandoned in place. The septic tank must be collapsed and
remaining void filled with gravel, sand, or compacted soil.
Desiqn Calculations:
Average Design Flow = 75 GPD x 2 people/bedroom x 3 Bedrooms = 450 GPD
LTAR = 0.8 GPD/SF
450 GPD / 0.8 GPD/SF x 1.0 (pressure dosed bed) x 0.7 (chambers) = 394 SF
Page 5
The new OWTS design is based on 3-bedrooms. An average daily wastewater flow of 450 GPD will be
used. The installation must include a 1250-gdlon, two-compartment septic tank with an Orenco@ ProPak
and PF3005 pump in the second compartment. Floats must be set to dose approximately 80 gallons per
pump cycle, allowing 9 gallons of drain back after each pump cycle. The control panel for the pumping
system must be located within line of sight of the septic tank.
Effluent will be pressure dosed through a 1.5-inch diameter pump line from the septic tank to 1.S-inch
diameter level manifold. The pump line must have a minimum 1o/o grade for proper drain back into the
septic tank.
The STA will consist of a chamber bed with three rows of 11 'Quick 4' Low Profile lnfiltrator@ chambers
for a total of 33 chambers and 396 square feet of infiltrative area. Burial depth of the chambers must
remain shallow, with a maximum depth of 2-feet below native grade.
Effluent will be pressure dosed to 1.5-inch diameter laterals, which must be hung with zip ties from the
underside of the chambers. Laterals will have 5/32-inch diameter orifices facing up, with the exception of
the first and last holes facing down for drainage. The holes must be placed 3-feet on center. We
recommend Orenco@ Orifice Shields be placed under the downward facing orifices. Each lateral must
end in a 90 degree ell facing up with a ball valve for flushing. Valves may be placed in a valve box,
accessible from grade. lnspection ports must be placed in each corner of the bed. Ports may be cut to
grade and covered with a valve box for access.
lrrigation should be discontinued in the area of the STA, with the exception of establishing native grasses
over the area.
The component manufacturers are typical of applications used by contractors and engineers in this area.
Alternatives may be considered or recommended by contacting our office. Construction must be
according to Garfield County On-Site Wastewater Treatment System Regulations, the OWTS Permit
provided by Garfield County Building Department, and this design.
REVEGETATION REQUIREMENTS
An adequate layer of good quality topsoil capable of supporting revegetation shall be placed over the entire
disturbed area of the OWTS installation. A mixture of native grass seed that has good soil stabilizing
characteristics (but without taproots), provides a maximum transpiration rate, and competes well with
successional species. No trees or shrubs, or any vegetation requiring regular irritation shall be placed over
the STA. Until vegetation is reestablished, erosion and sediment control measures shall be implemented
and maintained on site. The owner of the OWTS shall be responsible for maintaining proper vegetation
cover.
OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE
The property owner shall be responsible for the operation and maintenance of each OWTS servicing the
property. The property owner is responsible for maintaining service contracts for manufactured units,
alternating STAs, and any other components needing maintenance.
Geo-fabrics or plastics should not be used over the STA. No heavy equipment, machinery, or materials
should be placed on backfilled STAs. Livestock should not graze on the STA. Plumbing fixtures should be
checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWTS. For example, a running toilet or
leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a STA.
Page 6
lf an effluent filter or screen has been installed in the OWTS, we recommend this filter or screen be cleaned
annually, or as needed. lf the OWTS consists of a pressurized pump system, we recommend the laterals be
flushed annually, or as needed.
The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years, or as needed gauged by measurement of
solids in the tank. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non-biodegradable materials should not
be placed into the OWTS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener
should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWTS.
Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWTS. The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste
only.
ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES
lf design includes a pump, weep holes must be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of
freezing. The pump shall have an audible and visual alarm notification in the event of excessively high
water conditions and shall be connected to a control breaker separate from the high water alarm breaker
and from any other control system circuits. The pump system shall have a switch so the pump can be
manually operated.
Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of the STA due to the potential to compact soil
Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade
Backfill over the STA must be uniform and granular with no material greater than minus 3-inch.
INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC must view the OWTS during construction. The OWTS observation should be
performed before backfill, after placement of OWTS components. Septic tanks, distribution devices,
pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic,
LLC should þe notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation.
LIMITS:
The design is based on information submitted. lf soil conditions encountered are different from conditions
described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWTS construction must be
according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow applicable
county regulations. The contractor should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the
requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Licensing of Systems Contractors
may be required by county regulation.
Please call with questions.
Sincerely,

Using a Pump Gurve
A pump curvehelps you determine the best pump for your system. Pump curves show the relationship between flow (gpm or Usec) and pressure
(total dynamic head or TDH), providing a graphìcal representation of a pump's optimal peformance range. Pumps perform best at their nominal
flow rate - the value, measured in gpm, expressed by the first two numerals in an Orenco pump nomenclature, The graphs in this section show
optimal pump operation ranges with a solid line. Flow flow rates outside of these ranges are shown with a dashed line. For the most accurate
pump specification, use 0renco's PumpSelect'" software.

your local health department for
the proper procedure.
Place end cap over inlet end.
5. (Method A) Secure the pres-
sure lateral pipe to the top of the
first chamber with a plastic pipe
strap at the outlet end of the unit.
Slide the strap up through a slot
in the chamber top, down through
the other slot, and cinch the two
ends around the pipe.
6. (Method B) With the holes
pointing up, stabilize the pressure
lateral pipe on the ground to
prevent it from moving.
7. Lift and place the next Secure pressure pipe.
chamber onto the prevlôus one at a 45-degree angle. Line up the
chamber end between the connector hook and locking pin at the top of
the first chamber. Lower it to the ground to engage the interlocks.
8. (Method A) Secure the lateral pipe to the top of the next chamber
once in place. Follow the same method in Step 5.
9. Continue interlocking chambers and securing the pipe until the trench
is completed.
10, Before attaching the final end cap, it may be necessary to remove
the tongue of the connector hook on the last chamber with a pair of
pliers depending on your pipe diameter.
11. lnsert the pressure lateral
pipe through the hole in the final
end cap and slide the end cap
toward the last chamber. Lift the
end cap over the modified con-
nector hook and push straight
down to secure it to the chamber.
Note: lf cleanout extens¡ons are
required, use a hole saw to cut a
hole in the top of the Quick4
PIus AlLin-One Endcap so the
pressure lateral pipe with an
elbow can extend to the ground
surface. For cleanout access,
use the "lnstalling Optional
lnspect¡on Ports" section in the
general ¡nstallat¡on ¡nstructions.
Lateral pipe through end cap.
12. lf installing multiple rows of
chambers, follow Steps 1-9 to lay
the next row of chambers
parallel to the first. Keep a
minimum separation distance
between each row of chambers
as required by local code.
