HomeMy WebLinkAboutC1258 Inob Packet July 6, 2018 Project No. C1258 Trevor Everett trevor@mm-eight.com Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Installation Observations Lot 21, Oak Meadows Garfield County, Colorado Permit Number SEPT-03-17-4609 Trevor, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC observed the installation of the onsite wastewater treatment system (OW TS) on October 13, 2017 and July 1, 2018 for the subject property. Native Excavation installed the system. It is our understanding that Certificate of Occupancy has been issued by Garfield County and installation observation documents were necessary ASAP. Please note unfinished components and recommendations prior to system use. The installation included a 1500-gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank. The effluent filter and outlet tee had not yet been installed at the time of our July 1, 2018 inspection. A 500-gallon Infiltrator® poly pump chamber with an Orenco® ProPak and PF3005 pump was also installed. The pump floats were set to dose approximately 90 gallons per dose. The control panel was placed within line of sight of the septic tank (although not mounted at the time of our inspection). We understand Valley Precast out of Buena Vista was contracted for start-up of the pumping system, but start-up had not occurred at the time of our July 1, 2018 inspection. Effluent is pumped through a 1.5-inch diameter Schedule 40 discharge pipe to an automatic distributing valve (ADV) Model 6403A. The ADV was placed at the high point of the system and was accessible from grade. The 1.5-inch diameter pump line had a minimum grade of 1% for proper drain back into the pump chamber. The pump chamber was installed very close to the concrete septic tank, and ADV installed just above the pump chamber. W hile all minimum criteria appear to have been met, the sprinkler box allowing access to the ADV extends just above the elevation of the pump chamber, and the ADV has been placed below the riser. We believe there is the possibility of erosion below the riser and lack of cover over the top of the pump chamber and sewer line between the concrete septic tank and pump chamber could increase the chance of freezing. Ideally, the ADV should be moved farther uphill from the pump line to allow cover over the chamber, sewer line, and pump line, and shallow installation of the ADV in a proper riser for access with good base support. At a minimum, we recommended that Native Excavation place Blue Board insulation below and above the sewer line connecting the concrete septic tank to the poly septic tank. We also recommend putting some support infrastructure below the ADV to avoid erosion or settling below the sprinkler box riser. Effluent is distributed to three pressurized, over-excavated 12’ x 30’ unlined sand filter beds with a minimum of 2-feet of ASTM C33 concrete sand. Two rows of 7 Eljen® A42 modules were placed on top of each sand filter and connected with level 1.5-inch diameter manifolds. There was 3-feet of separation between the side edges of the beds and modules, and 2-feet of separation between the modules. Effluent was pressurized through 1.5-inch laterals, with 5/32-inch orifices facing UP (12-o’clock) with the first and last holes facing DOWN (6-o’clock) for drainage, 3-feet on center. Laterals were placed inside 4-inch diameter perforated SDR 35 pipe (with holes at 4 and 8 o’clock), per Eljen® specifications. Each 1.5-inch diameter lateral ends in a sweeping ell facing up with a ball valve for flushing. At the time of our July 1, 2018 inspection, the ball valves were not yet installed. These should be cut to grade and covered with a valve box for access. Inspection ports were placed in the sand filter material at the corners of each bed and also may be cut to grade and covered with a valve box for access. At the time of our inspection on July 1, 2018, it appeared that one of the inspection ports had been damaged. Care should be taken to assure there was no damage to the underground infrastructure. Additional efforts should be made to assure the system installation is complete and operational prior to use. An additional inspection from this office is strongly recommended. Please call Carla at 970-309- 5259 to request this inspection. At the time of the requested inspection, all recommended repairs and final installation of all components should be completed. It appears that the clearance between the septic tank and the rock wall toward the STA was intended for machine or vehicle traffic. NO TRAFFIC OR STORAGE SHOULD OCCUR IN THE AREA OF THE OWTS. The underground infrastructure was not intended to support heavy weights and should be revegetated with native grasses requiring minimal irrigation. The OWTS was generally installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWTS in the future. Any additional OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. LIMITS: Observations are limited to components that are visible at the time of the inspection. The installer must have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. The quality of the installation is dependent of the expertise of the installer, soil type, and weather conditions. Please call with questions.
