RE: Ringer Residence Structure Foundation -73L5 C.R. 3L2, New Castle, CO
Dear Mr, Ringer:
Regarding the subject foundation, we reference our letter dated June 13, 2018. We noted that
no observation of the foundation excavation or construction was performed. Our first exposure
to the project was after a majority of the framing was complete. We have been provided
photographs of the foundation construction. Based on these photos, please note the following;
Footing construction appears to be approximately L0-L2 inches thick with (3) continuous
reinforcing bars. Width is estimated as L8 inches. Reinforcing size cannot be determined.
Dowels were not tied into the footing reinforcing and appear to be "wet" set. The stem wall
construction utilizes (3) 16 inch tall courses of Fox blocks lnsulated concrete forms (lCF). Dowels
appear to be placed at 48" o.c. Horizontal reinforcing bars are placed at 8 inch o.c. Corner bars
were placed on the lowest two levels and the top horizontal bar level. All bars are placed in the
center of the 8 inch thick wall and are secured to standard Fox Blocks reinforcing bar holders.
Anderson Sructural Engineering, lnc. (ASE) has reviewed the Fox Blocks technical bulletin
"structural Engineering Design Guide US". The guide shows "U.S. Prescriptive Engineering
Specifications". The subject structure falls within the limitations of design criteria as specified in
the bulletin. For up to B foot tall walls with unbalanced backfill of 4 feet, the minimum vertical
reinforcement for all soil types is #4 @ 48" o.c. The recommended horizontal reínforcement is
#4 @ L6" o.c. The Fox Blocks literature further indicates that the minimum reinforcing bar size
that fits the holders is #4.
A review of lnternational Residential Code 20L5 presciptive design provides the following
specifications;
t. Minimum footing size = 16" wide x 6" thick'
2. Vertical reinforcement - not required'
3. Horizontal reinforcement - (L) #4bar within 12 inches of top of the wall and {L) #4 bar
near mid height of the wall.
