Subject:Observation of Excavation, Proposed Residence, Lot l, Block 6, Monument
Creek Viliage, 47 Willow View Way, Batflement Mesa, Garfield County,
Colorado
Dear Cody:
As requested, a representative of H-PlKumar observed fhe excavation at the subject site on April
23,2Al8lo evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The findings of our observations
and recommendations are presented in this report. The services zue supplemental to our
agreement for professional engineering services to you dated February 12,2018.
We previously performed a subsoil study for design of foundations at the site and presented in
our repofi dated February 23,2018, Job No. 18-7-157. The proposed residence is essentialiy the
same as described in our previous leport. Spread footings placed on the natural granular soils
and sized for an allowable bearing pressure of 2,500 psf were ¡ecommended for foundation
suppûrt.
At the time of our April 23 site visit, the foundation excavation was complete and had been cut
in two levels from 2 to I feet below the adjacent ground surface. The step in grade between the
lower level and the main level was about 6 feet. The northwest perimeter wall line was stepped
down another 3 feet for wall fobtings. The footings for the residence were in-place in the
foundation excavation at the time of our site visit. The soils exposed in the bottom of the
excavation consisted of relatively dense, clayey sand and gravel with scattered basalt cobbles,
and boulders. The foundation excavation had penetrated all fîll materials. No free water was
encountered in the excavation and the soils were generally moist.
The soil conditions exposed in the excavation arc consistent with those previously encountered
on the site and suitable for support of spread footings designed for the recommended allowable
bearing p¡essue of 2,500 psf. Loose and disturbed soils should be removed in the footing areas
to expose the undisturbed natural soils and the subgrade compacted. Other recommendations
presented in our previous report which are applicable should also be observed.
The recommendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils exposed
within the foundation excavation and the previous subsurface exploration at the site. Variations

in the subsurface conditions below the excavation could incrcase the risk of foundation
movement. V/e should be advised of any variations encountered in the excavatj,on conditions for
possible changes to recommendations contained in this letter.
