HomeMy WebLinkAboutOWTS Installation Observations 12.27.18 December 27, 2018 Project No. C1233 Jeff Klarner jklarner@earthlink.net Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Installation Observations 6441 CR 117 Garfield County, Colorado Permit Number SEPT-03-17-4619 Jeff, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC observed the installation of the onsite wastewater treatment system (OW TS) on May 5, 2017 and September 21, 2018 for the subject property. Ty Trulove installed the system. A minimum setback of 50-feet was maintained to Four Mile Creek. Drainage on the property is managed by a culvert to the north of the proposed soil treatment area (STA). The system installation included 4-inch diameter sewer lines from both the barn and main house. Double-sweep cleanouts were installed near the structures, in addition to the location where the sewer lines “wye” together. The sewer line exiting the residence is deep because of plumbing in the basement level. The system installation included a 1250-gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with an Orenco® Biotube Pump Vault and a PF3005 Orenco® pump in the second compartment of the septic tank. The location was different from the design documents and a decision was made to anchor the tank due to the potential for high seasonal groundwater in the new location. The floats were set to dose approximately 80 gallons each pump cycle. The control panel for the pump is located on the north side of the residence. We tested the pumping system at the time of our September 21, 2018 visit. Effluent is pressure dosed through a 1.5-inch diameter pump line to a mounded, 12’ x 28’ unlined sand filter. The excavation for the sand filter began between native grade and 1-foot below native grade to achieve a level base for the sand filter. The mound consists of a minimum of 2-feet of sand filter material. Pipes used to disperse the effluent were surrounded by washed coarse screened gravel or crushed stone. All of the gravel or stone must pass a 2 ½-inch screen and must be retained on a ¾-inch screen. The manifold was 1.5-inches in diameter. Laterals were 1.5-inches in diameter with 5/32-inch diameter orifice holes facing down, spaced 3-feet on center. Laterals were separated by 3-feet. Each 1.5-inch diameter lateral ends in a sweeping ell facing up with a ball valve for flushing. A soil separation fabric was placed over the gravel layer followed by approximately 1-foot of topsoil or other suitable soil able to support vegetative growth. The mound had a minimum 3:1 slope (horizontal:vertical). The OWTS was generally installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OW TS in the future. Any additional OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. LIMITS: Observations are limited to components that are visible at the time of the inspection. The installer must have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. The quality of the installation is dependent of the expertise of the installer, soil type, and weather conditions. Please call with questions.
