TimberLOK 6" Rafter Tail Fasteners vs. H1 Hurricane Clips
To Whom lt May Concern:
Greenwood Engineering, lnc. views the use of the Fastenmaster TimberLOK 6' Rafter
Tail fastener as nearly the same as the Simpson H-1 hurricane clips.
Attached are technical bulletins of each with similar allowable uplift loads for various
species of lumber used.
Sincerely,
ree , P.E
President

CONNECTION DETAILS
The minimum foslening requirements for the rofter to top plote conneclion in the current lnternotionol
ResidenTiol Code (lRC) ond lnternotionol Building Code (lBC) include o wide ronge of noiling options.
ln oll coses, these codes con be met by instolling the FostenMoster Timberl0K when the guidelines
on this technicol bulletin ore followed
ln mony coses where increosed wind or seismic condiTions require o stronger rofler lo top plote
connection, lhis fosrening method moy olso be used to reploce the use of metol ties or strops.
CAN BE USED WHEN RAFTER 15 ATIGNED OVER OR BETWEEN WAIL STUDS

1 . Loads have been increased for wind or eadhquake loading with
no further increase allowed: reduce where olher loads govern.
2, Allowable loads are lor one anchor. A minimum rafier thickness of
2y2" mus| be used when framing anchors are used on each side of
the joist and on the same side of the plate (exeption: conneclors
inslalled such that nails on opposite side don't irrlerfere).
3. Allowable DF/SP uplift load for stud to bottom plate installation
(see detail 15) is 390 lb. (H2,5A); 265 lb, (H2.SASS); and 31 0 lb.
(H8), For SPF/HF values mult¡ply these values by 0.86.
4. Allowable ¡oacls in the F1 dlrect¡on are not in'tended to replace
diaphragm bouncjary members or cross-grain bending of the truss
or rafter nrembers.
5. When cross-grain bending oi cross-grain tension cannot be
avoided in the members, meclranical reinforcement to resisl such
forces may be considered.
6. Huricane Ties are shown on 'lhe outside of the wall for clarty
and assume a minimum overhang of 3%". lnstallation on the inside
of the wall is acceptable (see Gerreral lnstrucl¡ons for the lnstaller
noles s on p. 21), For uplft continuous load path, connections in the
same area (i,e. truss to pìate connector and plate to stud connector)
musl be on the same side of the wall. See lechnìcal bullelin
T-C-HTIECONPATH al strongtie.com for more information
7. Southern Pine allowable uplift loads for H10A = 1,340 lb. and forthe H14 = 1,465 lb.
L Refer 1o Simpson Strong-Tie@ technical bulletin T-C-HTIEBEARING al strongtie.com
for allowable bearing enhancement loads.
9. Hl 0S can have the stud offset a maximum of 1 " from rafter (center to center) for
a reduced upl¡ft of 890 lb. (DF/SP) and 765 lb. (SPÐ.
1 0. Hl 0S na ls to plates are optionai for uplift but requked for laleral loads.
1 1. Sorne load values for the slainless-steel ccnnectors shown here are lower than
llrose for the carbon-sleel versions. Ongoing test programs have show¡ this to also
be the case wilh other stainless-sleel connectors ìn the product line that are inslalled
with nails. Visit strongtie.com/conosion for updated information.
