REQUIREMENTS. THE APPROVED PLANS RETURNED TO YOU SHALL BE KEPT AT THE BUILDING
SITE DURING CONSTRUCTION. FOR ANY REQUIREMENTS OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE
CONTACT THE COLORADO ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR.
THERE SHALL BE A FINAL INSPECTION AND APPROVAL OF ALL BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES
WHEN COMPLETED AND READY FOR OCCUPANCY AND USE - UBC SEC. 305 (d).
IT) Concrete for foundations and load bearing slabs is required to be 3000 psi
in 28 days - UBC Chapter 26. Mortar and grout shall be in accordance with
UBC Chapter 24 & Table 24-A and 24-8.
2) Masonry units, mortar, and grout shall be protected during cold weather In
accordance with UBC Sec. 2404 (c). Concrete shall be protected during cold
or hot weather in accordance with UBC Sec. 2605 (f) and (g).
3,1 Minimum concrete and/or masonry foundation reinforcement requirements are
shown on the attachment. (Note: these minimums apply only if a foundation
soils investigation is not performed and the soils are assumed to have an
expansion index of 20 or less and footing loads less than 2000 lbs/linear

2516 (c)), and shall be bolted to the foundation with not less than 1/2" did
bolts embedded at least 7" into concrete or masonry, spaced not more than
6 feet apart, min. of 2 bolts per piece and within 12" of each end of piece
- UBC 2907 (f).
9. Exterior concrete or masonry piers shall extend 8" min. above grade unless
the posts or columns which they support are treated or decay resistant wood.
Columns and posts located in basements shall be supported by concrete piers
or metal pedestals extending 6" min. above earth and 1" min. above floor
unless treated or decay resistant wood - UBC Sec. 2516 (c) 4.
10. Manufactured trusses, and manufactured joists and beams (i.e. TJI/Micro-
Lams, BCl/Versa-Lams, Glu -Lama, etc.), shall be sized and installed in
accordance with the manufacturers requirements.
11.. Wood joists orfloor beams located closer than 18" or wood girders closer
than 12" to the ground in crawl spaces shall be treated or decay resistant
wood - UBC Sec. 2516 (c) 2.

;29 Foam plastic insulation shall be separated from the building interior,
including attics and crawl spaces, in accordance with UBC Sec. 1712. Other
insulation (including duct and plenum insulation and coverings per UMC
Chapter 10) including facings shall meet the requirements of UBC Sec. 1713.
30. Masonry and stone veneer units (5" max. in thickness) shall have min. size
of No. 22 gauge by 1" galv. metal ties or No. 9 gauge galv. wire ties and
spaced to support not more than 2 sq. ft. of wall area but not more than 24"
on center horizontally. When applied over stud construction, the studs
shall be max. of 16" on center. Approved building paper must be applied
over the sheathing or studs - UBC Sec. 3006 (d).

This also applies to basement sleeping rooms -- USC Sec. 1204.
i) Glazing in hazardous locations as defined in UBC Sec. 5406 (glazing in doors
and adjacent to doorways, and glazing in windows located within 10"
vertically of a walking surface) shall be safety glazed or protected.
42. Glass in sloped glazing (more than 15 from the vertical) and skylights
shall meet the requirements of UBC Chapter 34. Skylights and roof and wall
panels of light -transmitting plastics shall meet the requirements of UBC
Chapter 52.
43. Provide combustion air for fuel burning equipment per UMC Chapter 6.
44. Pressure relief valves and/or combination pressure/temperature relief valves
shall be provided with a drain line to a floor drain with min. 1" air gap
or extended to the exterior of the building - UPC Sec. 1007.
45. .Domestic dishwashing machines shall not be directly connected to a drain or
waste disposer without the use of an approved airgap - UPC Sec. 608 (d).
Fuel burning appliances shall not be located in any room used or designed
to be used as a sleeping room, bathroom, or closet or any enclosed space

47. ApplTrices-(1ficluding space heating and water heating equipment) shall be
accessible for repair and removal in accordance with the UMC.
48. LPG fueled appliances shall not be installed in a pit, under -floor (crawl)
space, or basement - UMC Sec. 504 (f).
49. Appliances located in a garage (or in an enclosure opening into a garage)
shall be located out of the normal path of vehicles or protected from
damage. Any portion of the appliance creating a flame, spark or glow shall
be installed a min. of 18" above the garage floor - UMC Sec. 508.
50. Each water closet stool shall be located in a clear space not less than 30"
in width and 24" in front of stool - UBC Sec. 511 (a).
�1) Toilet rooms without operable windows shall be equipped with an exhaust
system ducted to the exterior - UBC Sec. 1205 (c).

Chapter 7
WARM -AIR HEATING SYSTEMS
Scope
Sec. 701. Provisions of this chapter apply to warm -air furnaces and heating
systems. In addition to the general requirements of Chapter 5. warm -air furnaces
and heating systems shall be installed to conform to the requirements of this
chapter.
General
See. 702. A room or space containing _ing a fuel -burning warm-airfurnace shall be
provided with combustion air as specified in Chapter6.
Fuel -burning warm -air furnaces shall be vented as specified in Chapter 9.
Air ducts and plenums which are a portion of a heating system shall comply
with Chapter 10.
Heating systems shall be installed so as to minimizethe probability of damage
from an external source.
Access
Sec. 703. A furnace room shall have an opening or door and passageway
thereto not less than 2 feet in width and large enough to permit removal of the
largest furnace in such room. The furnace shall be installed so as to permit
removal without disturbing piping, conduits, appurtenant valves and junction
boxes.
EXCEPTIONS: 1. When the furnace room is large enough to permit disman-
tling the furnace within the room, the access opening and passageway need be large
enough only to permit removal of the largest piece of furnace. This exception shall
not be construed to waive the requirements of a minimum door and passageway of 2
feet.
2. Access to warm -art furnaces installed in under -floor spaces shall comply with
Section 704.
3. Access to warm -air furnaces installed in an attic or furred space shall comply
with Section 708.
4. Access to warm -air furnaces installed on a roof or on an outside wall structure
shall comply with Section 710.
An unobstructed working space not less than 30 inches in depth and thebeight
of the furnace, but not less than 30 inches, shall be provided along the entire front
or firebox side of every warm -air furnace when the door of the furnace enclosure
is open.
Heating system air filters. fuel -control valves, vent collars, air -handling units
and externally mounted controls shall be accessible for maintenance, repair and
replacement. Access space shall be as specified for cooling equipment in Section
1202.
Prohibited installations
Sec. 704. Warm -air furnaces shall not be installed:

sides, back and top of the furnace.
EXCEPTION: Replacement Forced -art furnaces or air-conditioning cooling

comphance with conditions oflisting. Combustion air openings at the rear or side of
the closet shall meet the requirements of Chapter 6.

4. in an occupancy, unless separated by fire -resistive construction from the rest
of the building as required by the special hazards sections of Part /II of the
Building Code.
5. In a room used or designed tobe used as to be used as aizeakma,bathroom,closetorin
any enclosed space with access only through such mom or space.
EXCEPTION: Direct vent furnaces, claw furnaces and electric heating
furnaces. Access 10fur s m an attic or under -floor crawl space may be
through acloset. _ -
6. Outside of a building unless listed for exterior installation or enclosed in a
weatherproof housing complying with Section 710.
7. With clearance along the combustion chamber opening side of less than 6
inches or working space along the entire front or firebox side less than specified in
Section 703.
Installation
Sec. 705. A furnace shall not be installed on the discharge side of a refrigerant
evaporator or other air-cooling coil unless the furnace is specifically listed for
such use. A furnace shall not be installed on the discharge side of an evaporative
cooler unless the heat exchanger is of approved corrosion -resistant material.
A refrigerant evaporator or other air-cooling coil may be installed in the air -
discharge duct of a heating fiance if the furnace is listed for use with an air-
cooling coil or is listed for operation at at least 0.5 water column static pressure
and conforms with Part IV of this code. Conversion of existing furnaces for use
with cooling coils is permissible if authorized by the manufacturer and approved
by the building official.
A furnace supported from the ground shall rest on a concrete slab extending not
less than 3 inches above the adjoining ground level.
Return and Outside Air
Sec. 706. (a) Source. A warm -air furnace shall be provided with return air,
outside air, or both. Heating systems regulated by this code and designed to
replace required ventilation shall be arranged to discharge into the conditioned
space not less than the amount of outside alt specified in the Building Code.
(b) Separation. Except as permitted by the exceptions to Subsection (f) of this
section, there shall be a positive separation between combustion air and outside or
