December 8, 1981 REQUIREMENTS FOR PERSONNEL TUNNEL ENTRY BUILDINGS Revision 1 Minimum required ceiling height of building -8'-0". Required building length inside walls= 24'-4". Required building length front to back inside walls= 13'-2". Door hardware to be 2-sets of double leaf doors equipped with wired sight glass in each leaf, panic door openers, and automatic door closers. Adjustable louvers are to be installed in the front wall. The buildings will have flat roofs and be provided with gutters/ downspouts to channel runoff towards the back of the building. The building should be insulated to R-19 with fiberglass batten and interior liner with cap trim (same as exterior wall pannels) shall be provided and fastened to girts at a height of 7'-4" for insulation protection. Insulation thickness shall be 6" in the roof and 3" in the wallS.~. Siding and trim color shall match Marathon Metallic Company adobe beige (ADBG) or approved equal. The back walls of the building shall be cut to match the openings to the tunnel pipes and the connection shall be sealed and waterproofed. Subcontractor shall supply anchor bolt locations for the foundation that Brown & Root is to build. Subcontractor to supply fabrication drawings for review and approval. All electrical work to be done by Brown & Root. ; < .-,----~earns. intermediate columns, bearing end frames and ·1dwall columns. 3.2.2 Hot rolled structural mill shapes used in primary framing shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A36. Hot rolled bars, plates, sheets or strip .used in primary framing shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A- 529, A-570 or A-572 with a minimum yield strength of 42,000 psi. 3.2.3 Rigid Frames, tapered beams, leanto and canopy beams and side columns shall be straight or tapered welded built-up I shapes or structural mill shapes. 3.2.4 Bearing End Frames {beam and column) shall consist of columns at building comers and continuous rafter beams supported by end wall columns. Beams and corner columns shall be fabricated from structural mill shapes. 3.2.5 End wall columns shall be welded built-up I sections or structural mill shapes. 3.2.6 Tubing or pipe used for interior columns in MF·l, MF-2 and MF-3 and other structural uses shall conform to requirements of ASTM A-500, A-501 or A-53 as applicable I minimum yield 36,000 psi). 3.2.7 All base plates, splice plates, cap plates and stiffeners shall be factory welded in place and shall in- clude bolt connection holes. Webs shall be shop fabricated to include brace rod holes and flange brace holes. 3.3 Secondary Framing 3.3.1 Secondary structural framing shall include the purlins, girts, eave struts, flange braces, sill support, rake angles, clips and other miscellaneous structural parts. ,,-... 3.3.2 Hot rolled steel and strip used in fabrication of ;old-formed members shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A-570 with a minimum yield of 55,000 psi. 3.3.3 Purlins and girts shall be 8" cold roll-formed "Z .. sections with 3 11 flanges with stiffened edges. Stiff- ened flange edges shall be formed so as to permit nesting during shipping and when assembling ov.orlapping con- tinuous connections. 3.3.4 Eave Struts shall be unequal flange "C" sections cold formed so as to provide adequate back-up for both roof and wall panels at the building eave. 3.3.5 A continuous sill support member shall be provided to which the base of the wall covering may be attached. This member shall be a galvanized angle an- chored by explosive driven fasteners, expansion bolts or anchor-bolts. 3.4 Bracing 3.4.1 Wind bracing 'shall consist of diag0nal rod or angle bracing in both roof .and sidewalls. Film Integrity: Film will not peel, crack, check or blister, except for slight crazing on tightly formed bend lines as a result of accepted fabrication procedures for a period of 10 years on vertical (+ 15° ) surfaces or for a period of 5 years on non-vertical surfaces. b. Chalk: Finish of vertical (± 15° ) surfaces will not chalk in excess of a numerical rating of 8 for colors or 6 for white as measured by ASTM D659-44 for a period of IO years . c. Color Change: Finish of vertical 1+ 15°) surfaces will not fade or change color more than 5 NBS units as measured by · any standard Tristimu1us colorimeter in accordance with ASTM methods on a properly cleaned specimen for a period of 10 years. · 3.5.4 Type "R" panel shall have major ribs 1-1/4" deep on 121 centers with two 1/ 4 11 deep minor ribs between each major rib. Panels shall provide a 36" net coverage in width and shall lap one full major rib on- sides. All end laps shall be at least 6" on roof ar.d 4 11 on walls and shall occur over a purlin or girt. All panels shall be continuous from ridge to eave and from sill to eave except where length becomes prohibitive for handling purposes. All end wall panels for buildings with 1: 12 roof slope shall be square cut. All endwall panels for buildings with 4: 12 roof slope shall be bevel cut. 3.6 Gutter, Downspout and Trim 3.6.1 Trim and flashing shall be furnished at the rake, corners and eaves; at framed openings and wherever necessary to provide weathertightness and a finished appearance. Gutters at eaves shall be standard. Trim at eaves shall be available as an option. Downspouts shall be rectangular in shape measuring approximately 4" x 3". 3.6.2 Galvanized steel for trim, flashings, gutters and downspouts and other miscellaneous uses shall be 26~ga. or heavier and where specified shall be color coated with BRADEN PANELCOTE 20. • ~ \.t, t ; 3.6.3 A formed ridge cap matohing the. slope. -and .. ,~ profile of adjoining roof panels shall be provided along. the building ridge . 3.7 Bolts and Fasteners 3.7.1 All field connections except rake angle shall be bolted. Stru_ctural bolts shall conform to ASTM specifi- cation A-32<) with no washers and shall be tightened by the turn-of-the-nut method. • 3. 7.2 All panels shall be attached to secondary frammg with # 14 x 3/4 Type A sell-tapping screws with cadmium plated carbon steel head and shank and domed wa~h~r with neoprene sealing element. Roof panels shall be Joined ?-t. side laps with same fastener. Sidewall panels shall be JOtned at side laps with #10 x 5/8 Type A \\'::tshered hex head self-tapping screw with cadmium • plated carbon steel head and shank. 3.7.3 Optional fastener for roof and wall panels shall be # 12 x l" self-drilling screw with cadmium plated carbon steel head and shank with washer and neoprene • sealing element. 3.7.4 Trim laps shall be connected with 1/8" alu- minum pop rivets. 3. 7 .5 Heads of all fasteners for colored panel and trim shall be pre-painted· to match color of adjacent surface. • 3.8 Sealant and Closures 3.8.1 Sealant for sidelaps, endlaps and flashings shall be a nominal 1/4" wide x 3/16 thick, gray pressure sen- sitive tape which shall be a blend of butyl rubber, plas- ticizers and inert fillers. The material shall be non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-shrinking and non-drying and shall have superior adhesion to metals, plastics and painted surfaces at temperatures from -40° to + 180° F. • 3.8.2 Clear silicone sealant shall be furnished for application at head of windows, louvers, walk doors, framed openings, thresholds and where indicated on drawings. 3.8.3 Closed cell 1ight gray EPDM closures matching the panel profile shall be installed along the eave, rake _and at accessories as required to provide a weathert1ght building. SECTION 4: PAINTING AND FINISHES 4.1 Structural Painting . 4.1.l All members fabricated or formed from hot rolled steel shall be hand cleaned to remove loose weld splatter, loose mill scale and loose rust and shall ·eccive one shop coat of red oxide primer. ~5-1 SECTION 5: ACCESSORIES Windows 5.1.l Window sizes are 3020, 3030 and 6030. They shall be self flashing aluminum horizontal sliding and shall conform to all requirements of AAMA specification HS-B2 and U5A Standard Al34.l. 5. 1.2 All structural members of windows shall be of extruded aluminum 6063-TS alloy, .062 inches thick. Structural aluminum shall have ultimate tensile strength of 22,000 psi and a yield strength of 16,000 psi. Exposed surfaces of all aluminum members are to have a Class 1 extruded mill finish. Frame extrusion shall not be less than 2.5 inches in depth. 5.1.3 The sash lock shall be of die cast zinc, tumbled and zinc plated. 5.1.4 Glass shall be factory installei:1 using rigid, • vinyl glazing bead, Glass shall be backbedded with an approved bedding compound. A supportmli' ledge for glass shall be provided in the aluminum extrus10n. Glass shall · be clear SSB or DSB as required. 5. 1.5 The operating sash shall be equipped with both silicone treated-nylon pile weatherstrip and vinyl weather- strip at sill for watertightness. In addition to weather- • strip at meeting rail, additional weathertightness shall be insured by full length mterlockmli' section~. . 5.1.6 All windows shall be equipped with integral head and sill flashing with jamb fins specially designed to match the wall panel profile and insure complete weathertightness. 5.1.7 Windows shall have half screens which shall be ... e'11-isily a.pplied a.nd 1:emoved from the i~side. ~cree_n frames ~ shall be aluminum tubular shape. wired with fiberglass screen cloth conforming to industry standards. Storm windows are optional. 5.2 Swing Doors 5.2.1 Swinp doors shall be 3' x 7' single or 6' x 7' double x 1-3/4' thick manufactured from hot dipped gal- vanized, mill bonderized 20-ga. steel sheets. Doors shall have flush seamless faces with tight hemmed vertical edge seams continuously interlocked. Doors shall have 1/8 11 in 2 11 bevels for security and tight fit. All doors shall be reinforced for surface door closers. 5.2.2 The core of the door shall be completely filled with rigid foamed in place polyurethane with a density of 2# per cu. ft. and a U factor of .08. 5.2.3 Door frames shall be 8-1/ 4" deep and shall be fabricated from 16-ga. hot dipped galvanized, mill bond- erized steel sheets. Hinge reinforcements shall be heavy 9-ga. steel 10" in length, projection welded in six places. Head and floor clips shall be 12-ga., projection welded to the frame. 5.2.4 Doors and frames shall receive one shop coat of a vinyl base primer. 5.2.5 Doors shall be supplied with Schlage A-52D lockset with US26D finish (dull chrome) or equal, 1-1/2 pair of 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 painted steel hinges, aluminum threshold with lead inserts and adjustable vinyl insert weather-stripping. When required, optional #1604 Norton door closer in aluminum finish and/or Von Dupin #880TP rim type panic device with US26D finish or equal will be supplied. 5.3 Overhead Door Frames 5.3.1 Overhead door framing shall be desi9,ned to resist applicable wind loads and shall be 8-1/4' x 3" channel cold formed from 14-ga. or 12-ga. hot dipped galvanized, mill bonderized steel sheets. Frames shall receive one shop coat of vinyl base primer. Bolted con- nections shall be made with low profile round head fin neck plated carriage bolts. 5.4 Ridge Ventilator 5.4.1 Ventilator shall be of the continuous gravity type furnished in 10' segments. Sheet metal portion shall be fabricated from 24-ga. galvanized steel with exterior surfaces receiving a coat of white vinyl paint. 5.4.2 Ventilators shall be equipped with screw type operated dampers. Operator sere~ sha!l be fabricated. from brass with acme threads turning 1n nylon bearings. Damper operation shall be from sidewall with system of pulleys and chain. 5.4.3 The outlet of all units shall be covered with #2 mesh x .041 galvanized welded bir~scre~n-End caps shall be designed so that they may be field fitted to roof ~lop~,- 5.4.4 Ventilators shall be available as standard m 9 and 12 1 ' throat sizes. 5.5 Louvers 5.5.1 Louvers shall be 3' x 3' adjustable, self flashing type fabricated from galvanized steel. _Louyers s~all receive a prime coat and finish coat of white vmyl pamt. 5.5.2 Head, jamb and sill of louver shall be fa_bncated from 18-ga. galvanized steel and ~hall be _specially d_e- signed to match the wall panel profile. The Jamb and sill sheets lap behind the louver while the upper sheet laps in front of the recessed head. SECTION 7: ERECTION 7 .1 The erection of the metal building and the installation of accessories shall be performed in accordance with Building Manufacturer's erection drawings by a qualified erector using proper tools and equipment. 7.2 Erection Practices shall, in addition,,conform to Part IV, MBMA "Code of Standard Practices'.'
