RE: Boyd Residence at 1253 Kings Row St. Carbondale, CO
On August 17, 2012 I made a site visit to the Boyd-Misunas residence for a structural
review of the ongoing remodel. Two conditions had been specifically brought to my
attention for review prior to my visit. The existing parallel chord roof trusses had to be
cut back at their upper floor bearing level. I had consulted with the owner and general
contractor about this condition prior to my visit. Upon review of several photographs
provided by the owner via email I requested that the general contractor provide (2)-2x6
blocking tight between the parallel chords and sheath both sides of the truss with 5/8" ply
or OSB. The nailing pattern I provided was; 8d 4" o.c. perimeter nails with 8d at 6"
o.c. field nails. During my site visit on August 17t I specifically inspected these trusses
and found them to be compliant with the aforementioned modification.

The second item that was requested by the owner and general contractor was to open
the existing door/walk way at the existing dining area. The contractor proposed adding
an additional 2x8 ply to the existing 2 -ply 2x8 header with a nailing pattern prescribed by
SGM. The existing opening was 6'-0" and the owner wanted to increase the opening to
10'-0". Per my direction the contractor added 1 additional 2x8 header and nailed with 2
rows of 16d nails @ 16" o.c. and then provided a second set of 6" timberlok screws at
16" o.c. The contractor also added additional stud columns for bearing at each end. I
reviewed this modification during my site and found it to be compliant with the
recommendations I had provided for said modification.
