A 2 -bedroom cabin is currently developed on Cabin Parcel 1 (Parcel ID 2123-123-00-001). The 35.01 -acre property is located outside of New Castle, in an area where OWTSs and wells are necessary. SITE CONDITIONS A 2 -bedroom cabin presently exists on Cabin Parcel 1 and is served by a 500 -gallon, single -compartment metal septic tank. We were unable to get the camera into the outlet pipe to determine the location of the soil treatment area (STA). There is a desire to upgrade the OWTS to current standards. The cabin is served potable water by a private well located on the neighboring parcel to the north (Cabin 2 Parcel). The proposed septic tank will be greater than 50 -feet from the well and the proposed STA will be greater than 100 -feet from the well. Y -.Yl Canyon Creek runs to the east of the cabin. All OWTS components will be at least 50 -feet from Canyon Creek. There are other waterways, including ponds and a creek tributary on the property. All OWTS components will be located at least 50 -feet from any water way. The proposed STA location will be located west and upgradient of the cabin. The proposed STA is parallel to and east of the existing gravel driveway. The proposed STA slopes at approximately 5% to the south and to the east toward Canyon Creek. The proposed STA location must be staked prior to installation due to tight setbacks. SUBSURFACE The subsurface was investigated on January 16, 2019 by digging two soil profile test pit excavations (Test Pits). A visual and tactile soil analysis was completed by Carla Ostberg at the time of excavation.' The materials encountered in the Test Pit #1 consisted of dark brown sandy loam topsoil to 4.0 -feet, underlain by medium brown sandy loam to a maximum depth explored of 8.0 -feet. No bedrock or groundwater was encountered. We encountered a pipe and gravel STA at approximately 3 -feet, 10 - 'Carla Ostberg holds a Certificate of Attendance and Examination from the CPOW Visual and Tactile Evaluation of Soils Training. Page 2 inches below grade. The STA was dry with no contaminated material in the area of the Test Pit. It is believed that this STA served a cabin that has since been removed from the property. The materials encountered in Test Pit #2 were consistent with those encountered in Test Pit #1. Test Pit #2 was excavated to a maximum depth explored of 8.0 -feet. No bedrock or groundwater was encountered. A piezometer was placed in Test Pit #2 to monitor for groundwater in the spring. An additional 8 -foot deep Test Pit must be excavated near the proposed STA to assure soils are consistent. This office must be notified of this excavation and it must be done PRIOR to construction of the STA. A tactile analysis of the soils was taken from Test Pit #1 at 2 -feet below grade. Soil structure grade was moderate. The soil formed a ball and a ribbon less than 1 -inch in length before breaking. Soil structure shape was granular and consistence was loose to friable. Soil texture was more gritty than smooth. The sample taken below 4 -feet had slightly more rock content, but less than 35% volume. Soil structure grade was moderate. The soil formed a ball and a ribbon less than 1 -inch in length before breaking. Soil structure shape was single -grain and consistence was loose to friable. Soil texture was more gritty than smooth. STA sizing is based on Soil Type 2, Sandy Loam with moderate structure grade. A long term acceptance rate (LTAR) of 0.6 gallons per square foot will be used to design the STA, in accordance with Table 10-1 presented in the Garfield County On -Site Wastewater Treatment System Regulations. Drywell north of residence beginning of Test Pit #1 Existing pipe and gravel encountered 3'10" below grade Approx.. 4' below grade some rock below 4 -feet Page 3 Backfill from Test Pit #1 Page 4 Sieved sample of topsoil soils below 4 -feet in backfill pile Backfill from Test Pit #2 Page 5 r. 0.1; Depth of Test The existing pumping and abandoned in Pit #2 DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS metal septic tank serving the 2 -bedroom cabin can either be abandoned in place by filling with onsite soils or removing. The existing STA location is unknown and may be place. Design Calculation Average Design Flow = 300 GPD 2-bedrom Cabin = 75 GPD x 2 people/bedroom x 2 Bedrooms = 300 GPD LTAR = 0.6 GPD/SF 300 GPD / 0.6 GPD/SF x 1.0 (pressure dosed bi!d) x 0.7 (chambers) = 350 SF The new OWTS design is based on 2 -bedrooms. An average daily wastewater flow of 300 GPD will be used. For the purposes of this OWTS design, Benchmark Elevation at the 2-bedrom cabin has been established as 100' at the elevation of the existing sewer line exiting the cabin. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified of any discrepancies or problems with grade elevations of proposed components during installation of the OWTS. OWTS Com • anent Prima Tank Inlet Invert Manifold for STA Infiltrative Surface Minimum Elevation Min. 99' Min. 102' (pump line to hit high point at connection to manifold) Min. 101.5' A new 4 -inch diameter SDR -35 sewer line and double sweep clean out must be installed at the 2 - bedroom cabin. This sewer line must have a minimum 2% grade to the septic tank. Anchoring of this septic tank with Deadmen (specifications provided) may be necessary. This should be evaluated once the excavation for the septic tank is complete. A new 1000 -gallon, 2 -compartment concrete Valley Precast septic tank with an Orenco® ProPak and an Orenco® PF3005 pump in the second compartment of the septic tank must be installed at the 2 -bedroom residence. The floats should be set to dose approximately 60 gallons, allowing for 18 gallons of drain back each pump cycle. The control panel for the pump must be located within line of sight of the septic tank. We recommend Valley Precast out of Buena Vista be contracted for start-up of the pumping system. Effluent will be pressure dosed through a 1.5 -inch diameter pump line from the septic tank to the STA. The pump line must have a minimum 1% grade for proper drain back into the pump chamber of the septic tank after each pump cycle and end at a high point at the connection to the manifold. Page 6 The STA will consist of a chamber bed with three rows of 10 `Quick 4' Standard Plus Infiltrator® chambers for a total of 30 chambers and 360 square feet of infiltrative area.2 Effluent will be pressure dosed to a 1.5 -inch diameter level manifold and 1.5 -inch diameter laterals, which must be hung with zip ties from the underside of the chambers. Laterals will have 5/32 -inch diameter orifices facing up, with the exception of the first and last holes facing down for drainage. We recommend Orenco® Orifice Shields be placed on the downward facing orifices. We also recommend STARTING orifices at least 18 -inches from the chamber end cap. The orifices must be placed 2 -feet on center. Each lateral must end in a 90 degree ell facing up with a ball valve for flushing. Valves may be placed in a valve box, accessible from grade. Inspection ports must be placed at each corner of the chamber bed. Ports may be cut to grade and covered with a valve box for access. The component manufacturers are typical of applications used by contractors and engineers in this area. Alternatives may be considered or recommended by contacting our office. Construction must be according to Garfield County On -Site Wastewater Treatment System Regulations, the OWTS Permit provided by Garfield County Building Department, and this design. REVEGETATION REQUIREMENTS An adequate layer of good quality topsoil capable of supporting revegetation shall be placed over the entire disturbed area of the OWTS installation. A mixture of native grass seed that has good soil stabilizing characteristics (but without taproots), provides a maximum transpiration rate, and competes well with successional species. No trees or shrubs, or any vegetation requiring regular irritation shall be placed over the STA. Until vegetation is reestablished, erosion and sediment control measures shall be implemented and maintained on site. The owner of the OWTS shall be responsible for maintaining proper vegetation cover. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The property owner shall be responsible for the operation and maintenance of each OWTS servicing the property. The property owner is responsible for maintaining service contracts for manufactured units, alternating STAs, and any other components needing maintenance. Geo -fabrics or plastics should not be used over the STA. No heavy equipment, machinery, or materials should be placed on backfilled STAs. Livestock should not graze on the STA. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWTS. For example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a STA. If an effluent filter or screen has been installed in the OWTS, we recommend this filter or screen be cleaned annually, or as needed. If the OWTS consists of a pressurized pump system, we recommend the laterals be flushed annually, or as needed. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years, or as needed gauged by measurement of solids in the tank. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWTS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWTS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWTS. The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste only. 2 ARC 36 chambers may be used instead of Infiltrator® products. These chambers are slightly larger and if used should include 3 rows of 8 ARC 36 chambers. Page 7 ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, weep holes must be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. The pump shall have an audible and visual alarm notification in the event of excessively high water conditions and shall be connected to a control breaker separate from the high water alarm breaker and from any other control system circuits. The pump system shall have a switch so the pump can be manually operated. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of the STA due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Backfill over the STA must be uniform and granular with no material greater than minus 3 -inch. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC must view the OWTS during construction. The OWTS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of OWTS components. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow applicable county regulations. The contractor should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Licensing of Systems Contractors may be required by county regulation. Please call with questions. Using a Pump Curve A pump curve helps you determine the best pump for your system. Pump curves show the relationship between flow (gpm or L/sec) and pressure (total dynamic head, or TDH), providing a graphical representation of a pump's optimal performance range. Pumps perform best at their nominal flow rate — the value, measured in gpm, expressed by the first two numerals in an Orenco pump nomenclature. The graphs in this section show optimal pump operation ranges with a solid line. Flow flow rates outside of these ranges are shown with a dashed line. For the most accurate pump specification, use Orenco's PumpSelect'"' software.
