The high strength bolted connections are acceptable. On November 14, 2018 I visited the site of the garage construction for Mr. Paulson to perform special inspection of the high strength bolts. The plans for the garage by Armstrong Steel, Job No. 55733 were referenced and indicate that all high strength bolts are A325 -N bolts designed as bearing type connections, unless noted otherwise. The plans and details do not indicate that pretensioning of the bolted connections is required. Based on this, the bolted connections were observed to verify that the proper fasteners were installed and a representative number of bolts were tested to verify that they were installed to a snug tight condition. If there are any questions or clarifications needed, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, John E. Partch, P.E, Senior Engineer SGM, Inc.
