Subject: RE: Spellings Elevator Lift
Brad:
I'm not really sure what you are referring to, as I was out of the office on Friday attending to personal business...
Anyway, Spellings permit is due to come up for review in the next week or so, but I went ahead and took a preview look
at your permit application and there are some items that need to be addressed before we can finalize our review and
issue a permit for this work:
1. Foundation — There is no foundation shown below the added square footage/footprint that is being added onto
the existing residence to accommodate this elevator lift. Is floor framing intended to sit on the ground? Please
provide a foundation plan showing new concrete walls, tie-ins to existing foundation, floor framing at the main
level, and some type of structural floor support to address compression loads imposed by the vertical rails at the
elevator lift.
2. Vertical Section — Provide a vertical section cut through new elevator lift illustrating how this will fit into the
existing structure with new/existing structural components identified. Information provided does not clearly
identify how the new lift will fit under the existing roof structure — for example, will new ceiling framing
w/insulation be installed? In addition, as described clarification about the foundation/lower floor structure
would be helpful too.
3. Windows — The windows shown as being re -used may not work, as they will need to be tempered/safety
glazing.
If you can provide us with this additional information it will expedite our approval & issuance of the permit.

Dave,
I hope you are feeling better! Sounds like you had a rough day last Friday.
1
I wanted to check on the Spellings elevator addition. They contacted me and asked me to check, as their
crippled son is currently here and going through rehab daily from his motorcycle accident in hopes that he will
not be confined to a wheelchair the rest of his life. They would still like to get this elevator installed before we
get too much snow and have their approvals from Cerise Ranch.
No rush, just checking in for my Client.

Dave,
1. Foundation: The elevator is a self contained unit (see attached) with 2 vertical rails with minimal point loads
(728# each). The exterior framed wall will be insulated 2x6 at 16" o.c. The existing concrete patio slab that the
elevator shaft rails and walls sit on is 6" thick, rebar reinforced and is adequate to support this minor addition
and loading. The framing at the intermediate level is indicated on the plans (lower right), and their is no
additional loading from the elevator.
2. The attached elevator cut sheets provide vertical sections and details. The existing residence has an existing
roof that extends out past the elevator addition, that will be enclosed and insulated inside and above the elevator
shaft. The addition will encapsulate the self contained elevator shaft.
3. If the existing windows are not tempered and required to be, we will be purchasing new windows as
needed. The existing window at the lower level could be tempered due to its proximity to the patio door.
