The findings of our observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presented in this report. We previously provided a subsoil study report for foundation design for the subject property dated February 5, 2019, and foundation alternative recommendations in a report dated April 26, 2019, Project No. 19-7-117. Compaction testing of below -footing backfill was performed as requested on May 8 and 28, 2019. The proposed residence will be a 2 -story wood -frame structure with an attached garage. Ground floors will be slab -on -grade or structural over crawlspace. The residence was designed to be supported on spread footings with 3,000 psf allowable bearing pressure on at least 3 feet of CDOT Class 6 aggregate base course compacted to a minimum of 98% of standard Proctor density, overlying the natural sandy clay soils, based on our foundation alternative recommendations. At the time of our visit to the site on May 28, the foundation excavation was complete and had reportedly been sub -excavated 3 feet and replaced to footing grades with compacted Class 6 aggregate base course. The excavation was in multiple levels up to about 8 feet below the adjacent stripped ground surface. Compaction tests performed on May 8 and 28 (attached for reference) indicate the backfill below footing areas was compacted to at least 98% of standard Proctor density as recommended. No free water was encountered in the excavation and the soils were slightly moist to moist. The soil conditions observed in the excavation are consistent with those previously encountered on the site and the backfill as placed and tested is suitable for support of foundations designed for the recommended allowable bearing pressure of 3,000 psf. Other recommendations presented in our previous reports which are applicable should also be observed. Heyl Construction May 29, 2019 Page 2 The recommendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils exposed within the foundation excavation and the previous limited subsurface exploration at the site. Variations in the subsurface conditions below the excavation could increase the risk of foundation movement. We should be advised of any variations encountered in the excavation conditions for possible changes to recommendations contained in this letter. Our services do not include determining the presence, prevention or possibility of mold or other biological contaminants (MOBC) developing in the future. If the client is concerned about MOBC, then a professional in this special field of practice should be consulted. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call our office.
