Building Permit Application BLRE-1-l--18-5567
Gentlemen,
We have reviewed your application to use a HUD approved unit as a sales and property management office. Use of a
structure designed and certified for housing for use as a commercial occupation such as a business office would be a
violation of the building code. ldid send an emailto the HUD office in Washington and also to the Division of Housing
for the State of Colorado to make sure I was not treading on a state or federal preemption. lt has been several weeks
with no response. Rather than make you wait, I will make the determination based on a basic provision of the building
code.
Also there is a federal requirement to make all commercial structures ADA compliant. The ADA requirements are
different from the fair housing requírements. To field convert a HUD unit to meet the ADA requirements would void the
HUD certification that comes with the unit further complicating this proposed use of a HUD unit. Please call if you have
questions or comments.
Regards,
Andy Schwaller
