Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Installation Observations
188 Willow Lane
Garfield County, Colorado
Permit Number SEPT-01-19-5618
Kurt,
Project No. C1420
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC observed the installation of the onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS)
on April 10 and November 16, 2020 for the subject property. Little Digs installed the system.
The property is currently developed with a 3-bedroom, single-family residence and is served by an
existing OWTS. This OWTS was authorized by Garfield County Building and Sanitation Department
Individual Sewage Disposal System Permit 2495 (1995).
The subject OWTS will serve a 1-bedroom, additional dwelling unit (ADU). The new OWTS design is
based on 2-bedrooms (required by regulation). An average daily wastewater flow of 300 GPD will be
used.
The system installation included a new 1000-gallon, two -compartment concrete septic tank with an
Orenco® Biotube Pump Vault and an Orenco® PF3005 pump in the second compartment of the septic tank.
Deadmen were used to anchor the septic tank due to a high seasonal groundwater table. The floats were set
to dose approximately 50 gallons each pump cycle, allowing approximately 10 gallons of drain back. The
control panel for the pump is located within line of sight of the septic tank. Valley Precast out of Buena Vista
performed start-up of the pumping system.
Effluent is pressure dosed through a 1.5-inch diameter pump line to a mounded, 10' x 37.5' mounded,
unlined sand filter. The excavation for the sand filter began 1.0-foot below native grade. A minimum of 3-
feet of sand filter material was installed in the over -excavated footprint.
Laterals used to disperse the effluent were surrounded by washed coarse screened gravel. Laterals were 1.5-
inches in diameter with 5/32-inch diameter orifices facing down, spaced 2-feet on center (OC). Orenco®
Orifice Shields were installed on the laterals at each orifice. Laterals began 2-feet from the edges of the filter,
with 3-feet between each lateral. Each 1.5-inch diameter lateral ends in a sweeping ell facing up with a ball
valve for flushing. A soil separation fabric was placed over the gravel layer followed by approximately 1-foot
of topsoil or other suitable soil able to support vegetative growth. The mound has a minimum 3:1 slope
(horizontal :vertical ).

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Do:
• Have your system inspected (in general) every three years by a licensed contractor
and have the tank pumped, when necessary, generally every three to five years.
Don't:
• Pour cooking grease or oil down the
sink or toilet.
• Rinse coffee grounds into the sink.
• Pour household chemicals down the
sink or flush them.
Do:
• Eliminate or limit the use of a garbage
disposal.
• Properly dispose of coffee grounds a
food.
• Put grease in a container to harden
before discarding in the trash.
Don't:
• Flush non -degradable products or
chemicals, such as feminine hygiene
products, condoms, dental floss,
diapers, cigarette butts, cat litter, paper
towels, pharmaceuticals.
Do:
• Dispose of these items in the trash can!
Don't:
• Park or drive on your drainfield. The
weight can damage the drain lines.
• Plant trees or shrubs too close to your
drainfield, roots can grow into your
system and clog it.
Do:
• Consult a septic service professional to
advise you of the proper distance for
planting trees and shrubs, depending on
your septic tank location.
Don't
• Concentrate your water use by using
your dishwasher, shower, washing
machine, and toilet at the same time.
All that extra water can really strain
your septic system.
Do:
• Stagger the use of water -generating
appliances. This can be helpful
especially if your system has not been
pumped in a long time.
• Become more water efficient by fixing
plumbing leaks and consider installing
bathroom and kitchen faucet aerators
and water -efficient products.
