Box 1878 Rifle, Colorado 81650 Project No. 14 -008G -D3 Subject: Review of Micropile Foundation Load Testing, Schlegel Residence, 1675 County Road 109 in Garfield County, Colorado Dear Mr. Brainard, RJ Engineering conducted micropile Toad testing for the Schlegel Residence at 1675 County Road 109 in Garfield County, Colorado on May 1, 2020. We conducted two proof tests on production piles to verify assumed soil strength parameters. The tests were performed in tension, which we believe is more conservative than a compression test. Therefore, the measured deflections would typically be more than if the micropile were tested in compression. The proof tests were loaded to 1.6 times design load. The total measured deflections were 0.33 and 0.35 inches at the design load. The tests were conducted in general conformance with FHWA guidelines and the test results are attached. The micropile movements appeared higher than typically measured. We believe this is due to the unbonded length that was required by the geotechnical engineer. We believe test results indicated movements were within acceptable design limits (see attached). Based on our test data, it appears the micropiles installed by B&Y Drilling, Inc. were in general conformance with plans provided by RJ Engineering & Consulting, Inc., dated April 20, 2020. RJ Engineering did not verify micropile locations. Survey and micropile layout was assumed to be the responsibility of others.
