United Companies Rifle Ready Mix OWTS
Project Background and Description
8 New Production Equipment, equipment enclosure and production offices
United Companies is proposing construction of a replacement Ready Mix Concrete production facility located at 25828
Highway 6 & 24, Rifle, CO (Parcel #217711300451) Township 6S Range 94W SW Corner Section 11 and NW corner section
14, operating under Special Use Resolution 89-030 filed with Garfield County under Parcel #217711300298. These sites were
previously owned and operated by Casey Concrete Co. and purchased by United Companies in 2008.
This facility will act as replacement equipment for the existing production facility to replace worn production equipment as well
as provide a building envelope that encloses exposed materials storage bins providing ability to better control material
exposure to weather. The existing production facility will remain in operation until the new facility is completed and operational.
Existing Conditions
8 Existing Conditions of Construction Site and Surrounding Area
Currently United Companies utilizes a vault and haul system located at the existing Ready -Mix Production Facility. This facility
includes a 1,260 square foot metal building surrounding the plant equipment, a 350' square foot office trailer for production
controls and 3 separate storage sheds for various tools and materials storage. The existing vault is located on the North East
corner of the existing production facility and will stay in place until future demolition of the existing Production Facility is
completed. The production water is currently sourced from an in ground well located just North of production Facility.
The proposed area for the new vault is approximately 250' North of the existing vault and will be situated on the East side of
the new production facility building in the light vehicle parking area. There are currently no structures in this area.
Proposed Conditions
8 Planned Water Source & OWTS
The existing well will remain in place and be utilized to provide Non -Potable production water to the new facility as well as
aggregate stockpile watering to help control dust and maintain aggregate moisture saturation. Additionally, United Companies
will look to add a future well approximately 120' South of the new production facility that will be sourced to provide Non -Potable
production water to the facility.
A new Septic Vault will be installed at the North East corner of the new production facility just North of the light vehicle parking
area. As described in the letter provided by Huddleston -Berry the existing conditions will not allow for a traditional absorption
field. A vault system of one (1)1500-gallon tank will be installed with a float level indication system. The level indication system
will be installed in the last baffle of the tank. This vault will be monitored by the production foreman as well as a level indication
device and will be placed on a scheduled clean out by third party waste management companies.
Following installation of the new production facility and OWTS United Companies will dismantle the existing equipment and
regrade the site to match existing profiles. The current vault system will be abandoned through clean out by third party waste
management companies, the bottom of the tank will be broken and the top collapsed and will be back filled with a controlled
low strength material (flow fill). The site will be graded to surrounding conditions.
